'greed mate, good idea.

why 2 months and why 150 posts? ....a tad arbitrary that criteria is it not?

Can you elaborate on why though?
#3
but the posts would just be nonsense and members could just sign up, post stupid comments (like this one will be no doubt) then dissappear for the 2 months.....viola, can scam everyone still :?

It makes the FS/FT board a lot less appealing to scammers as they would have to 'plan' the scam months in advance and spend time posting on this site.

It is likely to result in scammers taking their scams elsewhere.

Being a very nice person I'm just looking out for other HUKD's members.

Agreed. But why not 3 months then and 500 posts?

But it makes the forum a lot less attractive to a scammer (psychologically).

Most scammers don't have a lot of money and need money right away. By introducing my suggested rules scammers would be less likely to bother using HUKD and use another site.

Not going to stop scammers. The scammer accounts I have seen a lot of are old accounts.

Nice idea though.

Seperate signups would help.

Because I believe that 2 months and 150 posts is adequate.

If you made it 500 posts a lot of members who want to sell something would end up spamming the forum in order to get to the required amount of posts and that's not good for anyone.

While I think the motivation for the idea is good, there is no evidence to support the effectiveness of your proposal on reducing or deterring the scammers. :-(

150 posts can be easily achieved by posting in those silly word games and what not.

Could work in a scammers favour too. I could build up trust with other members by posting really helpful stuff and just being a very nice person then rip someone off royal cos they thought they could trust me.
#13
Bad idea which has already been discussed on feedback many times.

Very easily gotten around
1. I register
2. Make a some nonsense posts over a couple of months (like all the new users who joined in Sept to qualify for the comp)
3. Flog some items to an unsuspecting individual who thinks because I have 150 posts and have been registered for 2 months I must be trustworthy.

Who would you be more wary of, some recently registered with a few posts or someone with 150? This will just make people more gullible.

I know a lot about psychology and it makes the FS/FT forum a lot less attractive from a scammers perspective.

If my idea was trialed I know for sure the amount of scams would fall in the FS/FT forum.

Another point is that i wouldn't want to wait two months just to be able to sell or buy stuff.

My point exactly.

It will make the FS/FT forum a lot less attractive to scammers.

I meant as me, not a scammer ....i think it would put off genuine people too if they had to wait all that time.

Can you not just pay by PayPal and be covered if you don't get the item? Or am I being stupid? :)

No. You are not really covered.

Been suggested many times. Not practical.

The only practical thing you can do is use common sense. For those with none it's best not to use fs/ft :)

Agreed, how do you think members with 1000's of posts racked them up
#26
I don't think this is a bad idea tbh. I can see the logic behind it anyway.
#27
alot of scams happen because they gain the trust of the person involved
this wont stop scammers unfortunately
it may only encourage the bigger scammer
#28
The phrase 'going round in circles' comes to mind here.

You may well stop the casual scammer who can't be bothered with the effort of it all, but are you going to stop the bigger scammer who will actually abide by the above? No in the answer. If there's means of doing it, it's gonna happen.

Seen this suggestion umpteen times, seen it not put into place umpteen times.

Case closed.

Follow the rules and guidelines, and you won't get scammed. It is as easy as that.

I'd say 'won't' is wishful thinking. No matter if you've got a seller's address, phone number etc... they could still do a runner with your money.

It's less likely if you follow the rules/guidelines, but it's not a given.

and you have great knowledge of many deals on the FS/FT Board? with all of your what, 6 deals?
No offence meant, but there are many others that would probably be much better at setting the criteria if a rule similar to this was to be imposed.

And habitual liars should? Thats a pretty unneccessary response, its not a rule, and who the hell are you to make such judgments of other people? Keep your bile in the misc forum.
#36
i like it, maybe not 2 months but maybe 2 weeks - 1 month, try it out and see what happens, i can guess most scammers need the money quickly and they may be put off by the wait etc it wont solve the problem completely but surely it will decrease scams? And new genuine members cant really complain about a 2 week wait, and they might actually read the rules first while they wait.

See to me your ebay feedback means nothing as that doesnt mean you wouldnt rip someone off here, as it wouldnt affect your feedback on ebay. Thus why i dont care if someone has 1000 positive feedback and 100% as if dealing on HUKDs its HUKD feedback i listen to as thats where you are dealing.

Obviously others see this differently though.

This is why i ask people with lesser feedback especially for higher value items to send first and had no problems as of yet...even had £250 worth of ps3 package sent first and the transaction was smooth. Although i can imagine sending first is always worrying (i did it when i started here and on AVForums).
