Go to bed at a reasonable time, mobile phone alarms are the loudest.

I have sleeping problems but the mobile phone is aloud enough but my body eventually is trained to turn it off subconciously and continue sleeping. Same with alarm clocks, no matter where I put it I'd eventually get used to it's noise.

What has worked is sleeping without thinking about what happened during the day, stressing over the future and trying to limit any sort of late night surfing, TV watching etc. Your body has it's own natural alarm clock and using artificial ones isn't good in the long run IMO.

Failing that try medication, it works (I used anti-depressants) but consult a GP first obviously. It might be some kind of psychological problem your fella is having although relying on meds is a problem in itself.
