Hi there, just bought a new imac 6gb with 320 gb ram, and am looking at getting some of the good programs for it - i have protools and thats pretty much it, buying garritan personal orchestra as i am into film composition, wondered if you have any programs you like to use, ie virtual instruemnts, synthesisers etc ,

really want absynth/battery2or3/guitar rig or any other NATIVE INSTRUMENTS software, also looking for pro tools mpowered 8. Thanks

I used to use Sonic Foundry Acid Pro (which has now been baught off sony) for bootlegging, great app with that and fruity loops you could easily create a decent track based upon midi files (at the time when polyphonic ringtones were the pinical of mobile phone show-offy-ness [made up word])

Still use Acid Pro to this day.

I use Cubase and Ableton, using a mixing desk, phaser, Hercules mixer plus 2 1210s.

i always found 'Logic' to be pretty nifty.

320gb ram? Beastly... :giggle:

'Anyone into Music Technology' - You obviously aren't!!!!!!

You sure it has 320GB RAM and a 6GB HDD. Seems a rather fudged up machine if thats the case :whistling:

EWQL do some fantastic sample libraries. Combine their bassoon with their cello and some convolution reverb from Altiverb, and you may well melt of happiness. The Garritan personal orchestra has some really good sounds as well. Stuff just writes itself with their classical guitar tone. I think it's GPO that has the orchestra hit sounds, too. I love them.

Been using Pro Tools and various other apps/hosts for years, just switched to Logic 8 and my mind has been blown!

autolesbona your a real know it all arent you its something called a mistake, i have studied film composition at royal college of music, and am doing a music technology degree in de montfort university so chances are i do know a fair amount about music technology, thanks to everyone else for your input, was going to switch to logic but would rather the new pro tools, it looks pretty neat. does anyone have software they will sell? looking for absynth and any native instruments

is logic 8 really that good, i tried pro 7 and was good but thought pro tools was a lot easier to use to be honest, i have heard the ewql and they are excellent! also ordering garritan as they are just as good, and a lot cheaper!!

Moved thread from MISC to FS/T. Please be aware you are only allowed 2 bumps per thread & you should only post in thread if you are offering items or agreeing to sale (no general discussion posts), thanks.

** Update : As your thread was moved from MISC you are classed as having zero thread bumps starting from my post. Post #10 is the only one that could have been classed as a bump, but you were actually explaining you wanted to buy items while still in MISC. So start counting from this post, thanks.

Not really, I would have thought that a whistling smiley would make that obvious, but as you didn't use one and starting sparking off about the royal college of music and de montford uni I got bored and can only conclude that you are one.

I'm chilled. Look at my avatar, I'm a dog in a Yoda suit. You can't get any cooler than that.

You're probably best asking in the DV247 forums, http://forums.dv247.com/ . There's a guy there called TrevCircleStudios who'll probably sell you something, along with quite a few of the members.

cheers matey i use dv myself thanks:)

just igned up to dv247 then i get a message from admin saying u can ask for software on theforum, so back to looking on here!!!!! anyone have ANY music tech software?
#20
I use logic studio and cant reccomend it highly enough.

Im running a 20" 2.44ghz imac with 4gb of ram and on the last track i produced I had about 20 audio channels and 10 virtual instruments and it handled it find.

Logic is completely idiot proof.

I've also tried a few external plugins.

The orchestra package you've ordered is superb :) you will not be dissapointed. Logic has some cool virtual instruments already built in.

I did the BA, didn't really like all the focus on minimalism, but hey, had the best three years of my life
