Banned Xbox 360 Elite (iXtreme v1.61) £50.00

As title, console only for £50 + delivery (£8 for mainland UK delivery with DHL via Parcel2Go, or buyer's choice).

My Xbox 360 was banned from Xbox Live about a week ago, but no worries as I managed to pick up a new one quite cheaply on eBay and so I'm selling the banned one as I'm sure someone would like to pick up a cheap console that they can play backup games on.

The console is in very good condition, some minor scuffs to the top of the case but you have to look for them and the front is fine, faceplate intact. It has a Benq drive and has never had any faults (no 3 red lights, E74, or anything, so never sent off for repairs). I've only had it since June or July, so it was unmodded until I flashed it with iXtreme 1.6.

Before I send it off I will change the firmware on it so that it can play wave 4 games (I can either give it iXtreme v1.61, or flash it back to old Xtreme firmware which is not stealthed at all and will play anything, which will avoid any problems that might arise when new waves are introduced in the future, or if the new 'Lite Touch' firmware becomes available before this sells I can put that on - this is the buyer's choice).

As I bought a whole new system I also have a full complement of accessories going spare. I was going to sell these separately but if anyone needs anything to go with the console just let me know and I will state prices for both individual accessories and bundles. These include the 175w PSU, component cable with scart adapter, a new 120gb hard drive, a second hand black wireless controller. Say £120 + delivery for the whole lot, or will split.

Would you be interested in selling the console and power pack at a reduced fee?
#2
Can you still save games etc? Is THE ONLY downside not being able to access live?

Say like £65 delivered for the console and PSU, making the PSU essentially £7? (assuming delivery to you will be £8).

Oh, perhaps I should cover this, as I've been doing some reading up on the subject.
With a banned console you can no longer access Xbox Live at all, meaning no online gaming, no messaging other players, no updates (until they become available on the game disks, or unless you burn them to CD/DVD/USB drive yourself). I think other network features, such as media streaming, are still enabled although I'm not sure about anything that requires digital rights, such as the DivX update or Arcade games.
You can still save games, so if you just want to play games and don't care about the dashboard being up to date or playing online at all then this will suit you. However in this recent ban wave Microsoft have made it so that you can't install games to or play them from the hard drive, and have also made it so that if you play a game on a banned console and then move your hard drive or memory card to an unbanned console you will find that your gamertag is corrupted (no big deal - you can recover it from Xbox Live on an unbanned console, it's just to make you lose any achievements you've gained on the banned console) and that any save games made on the banned console will not work on the unbanned console.
Basically, if this would be your only console there would be no issues, but if you're planning on having a modded console to play copied games on and also an unmodified console to go online with, then Microsoft have made it very awkward for you.

Cheers. Kids already have the MW2 Elite console for their online games etc but want another console just for playing arcadey type games that they wont play online. I already have a PSU from an old RROD console from a year or so ago, will this suit that?

What wattage is it? (Will be written on the sticker on the bottom, should be 203w, 175w or 150w, or if the connector that plugs into the back of the 360 is silver metal rather than grey plastic then it's 203w.) This console requires 175w, so if your PSU is 175w or 203w it will power it.

Good on you for being totally honest with people about what happens. There are a lot of buyers that may not be clued up and not realise this

Thanks! I should stress that I'm not 100% sure about which network features still work and which ones don't. I've read that the Windows Media Centre feature no longer works, but I can't vouch for that as personally I've never used it. I just use the 'My Videos' section, which shows any video files that you have on a CD/DVD in the disk drive, or a USB drive, or that are shared on a networked PC or media server (because I have a media server). As far as I know you can still use this to play WMV, MPGs and MP3s over the network but unfortunately it won't play DivX files anymore. What I didn't realise until I got banned was that the first time you download the 'optional media update' for playing DivX files it gets linked to the console you're using as well as your gamertag. If you try playing DivX files on a different console with the same gamertag you have to be signed into Xbox Live - you can only watch DivX offline on the first console you downloaded the update on unless you transfer the digital rights to the new console on the Xbox website. This time last year (when I first got the update) I had a Premium console - I exchanged it for an Elite over the summer and although I realised I had to be online to watch DivX I just thought that was the same for everyone. If I'd realised I could watch them offline by transferring the rights I would have done that and I wouldn't care now that the console is banned. I've since transferred the rights to my new console, so if that gets banned I won't have to get yet another one to watch DivX.
That's all a bit confusing, thanks to Microsoft and their complicated licensing agreement with DivX. So I think other video files still work, but I'd urge any prospective buyers to do some reading of their own! Basically this console will be best suited to someone who doesn't care about the finer features of the console that may no longer be avaiable and who just wants to play some games!

Manufacture date is 19th December 2007. It was second hand from a friend who was selling it to get a PS3. He hadn't done anything to it - as I've said, it's never been faulty, never been to Microsoft or anyone else for repair, only opened once, by me, to be flashed from original firmware to iXtreme 1.6, has a Benq drive, needs a 175w PSU, and I think all that makes it a Falcon board(?). I was pretty careful about it - it was always connected to Xbox Live so that I could watch DivX files (although I now realise that wasn't necessary) but I always fully verified backups with abgx360 and never played anything before release date, so I don't know what they got me on. Cosmetically it's in excellent condition, only minor scuffs to the top of the case, photos available on request.

Yep divx offline can only be used on the console the original license was downloaded on unless you transfer it and thats even with a legit console.

Oh and it looks like they got everyone on the firmware beig detectable.

I wish I'd known that before. I've transferred the rights to my new console and have set my router to block its internet access, so it can play DivX files from my media server but not go onto Xbox Live. I should have done that with the last one, instead of having it online constantly. I'll let the new one online occasionally to get updates and if it does get banned again at least I'll still have DivX.

And yeah, c4eva (the guy who makes the firmware) has always said that the firmware itself is undetectable and that bans are due to badly ripped or badly stealthed backups, or people playing games that are leaked early, and that perhaps even abgX360 has its faults and that supposedly verified backups are being detected. However, personally, I feel that if original firmware can play wave 4 and 4 games but iXtreme needs to be updated every time a new wave comes out then surely it's significantly different to the point that it could be detected, especially by the company that designed the console in the first place and know exactly what they're looking for! Add to that the fact that c4eva is designing the new 'Lite Touch' firmware to be as close to the original firmware as possible, strongly implying that the current versions are detectable.

Including or excluding postage? Current offer is £65 for console and PSU including postage, which Adam2050 has first refusal on.

Ok, £65 for the console and PSU including delivery.
I'm afraid I can't accept £45 for the other accessories, though - the hard drive is worth that on its own. I'm still offering the whole lot for £120 + p+p though, which is only an extra £18 more than what you're offering (so that would be the console, PSU, component cable with scart adapter, new 120gb HD and used wireless controller).

It's sold now anyway but I just thought I'd add that when my console got banned, Windows Media Center did indeed still work but I couldn't watch any .avi files. Those require you to be online. However, I tried playing a .wmv file (an episode of HIGNFY I downloaded from iplayer) and that still played fine. Therefore, it's certainly worth converting vids to .wmv or streaming them through the dashboard using TVersity to encode on the fly

Thanks for the info. When did your console get banned? Was it in the last couple of weeks or last year (or the year before)? It looks like this time around Microsoft are not only banning consoles but somehow also removing some of the console's functionality - like you can no longer play games from hard drive or use a save game created on a banned console on another console. But even if Windows Media Centre no longer works at least you can still play videos shared on a network using the 'My Videos' option (which is all I ever use anyway), and it will always play MPG and WMV. Just for AVI you need the digital rights locked to that console, which you need to go online for. If you use a media server to encode on the fly then you should have no problem. Personally I've got a NAS drive with a media server installed on it - it's not powerful enough to encode on the fly, only stream media, so I've made sure that I have the digital rights for the DivX media update on my new 360 so that it can play AVI, then set my router to block it from accessing the internet by MAC address so that it can still see the NAS drive for playing media, but it can't access Live to notify Microsoft of my every move. :x I'll allow it online occasionally to get updates and upload achievements (not that I'm an achievement *****), like tomorrow when the Facebook/Twitter update is released, which I'm not particularly excited about but I might as well take a look...
