Looking for a new good graphics card for around £50-80.

Must have a dvi, be compatiable with vista, run gears of war, shadowrun, halo 2 and gh3.

it would nice to be able to play crysis aswell but the games above are essential.

i would really like suggestions as i probably won't buy from users here.

seems a bit too much for my price range! thanks anyway
#3
stretch a bit and get the 8800GT?
Or wait a bit as I think a new gfx card is just around the corner
Also, ain't this meant to be in the Deal Request section?

play around with this to get a feel on the power of each gfx card. Not sure if Battlefield2142 is in the same league as your games but I think it is a good estimate. Of course it also depends on your settings and screen - I placed it at max just for the fun of it

What resolution/settings are you wanting to game at?

The 8600GT will play all the games you mentioned (excl Crysis) on medium-level settings @ 1280x1024 (1680x1050 would be pushing it).

If however you're wanting more than that if you could stretch your budget £20 you can get an 8800GT for £100, money well spent IMO. Also if you wait a few days both ATI and nVidia are releasing a new range of cards so that should push down the price of the current ones.

Just realised if you do invest in a 8800GT you probably would get twice as much fps as the 8600GT in SLI lol.
Anyways, my recommendation is to wait fo the new range of cards (apparently a few days to go) and see then.

I've got a Sapphire X1950 PRO, Boxed with all the bits as new, (better than a 8600gt) if your interested I'll do it for £45.

guess i will wait then......

I'm assuming it's PCI-E....

8800GT 256Mb = £68

If you can stretch max budget by £20...

8800GT 512Mb = £100

I have a 7900 GTX 512MB For sale @ £35 delivered. ??

Not a dx10 card admittedly but faster than most newer ones. and at a silly price. Let me know if your interested, check out some tomshardware or similar benchmarks so you have a better idea of how it compares..

Bargain!!!

Go for it mate, for this price you will enjoy your new found gaming experience.

This will blitz that 8600GT you posted, forget DX10, this will handle most games very well until you decide to upgrade, say in 3-4 months time when DX10 really kicks off and we see what the new cards can really do.

You will still get your £35 back on this card in 6 months time, it really is that good.
