Must be pci and i must be able to plug in my sky box / technomate box (think that uses composite)

something DVB or a card able to record mpeg2 would be great

i have a magic tv card @ the moment and i can cap small files but no matter how i tweak it the quality is pony

You need hardware mpeg2 encoding to be able to capture off sky etc , problem is most dvb cards don't do that as the stream coming in is already encoded and can be written straight to disk in that format.
Whilst it's comparatively easy to set up a pc to work with freeview sat is a different ball game unless you are happy with fta channels

not sure if we have got mixed up somewhere m8, but the sky is conencted direct to my pc (ie i record the channel i am watching @ the time) unless thats what your saying lol i no i can connect my sky dish direct to my pc if i wanted via my skystar card, all i want is to be able to record games @ a high quality with out saying connecting a dvd recorded as i have a sky box and a technomate box so i cant connect it to two boxes @ once

record games at a high quality?, what games?, the Olympics?,
as you've said without hw mpeg 2 encoding any recording will be pants and short. so to record off any analogue source you will need an encoder and a dvb card generally won't have one.

record spurs game from sky sports italia etc, is there a tv card with a mpeg2 hardware encoder rather then a dvdb card ? for example would this card be any good http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125504

yeah thats the baby i was going to suggest once you confirmed use, its supported by most media centre softwares and is supposed to be one of the best.
shame they haven't dropped in price much, think its becuse they have to pay a licence fee on the encoding technology.
As an alternativeyou could always consider the ci/cam route for a sat card but i have no idea how successful this is.
