This is one of the bargain servers that has now expired (OP here):

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1986029#post1986029

The machine is unopened and arrived this morning, unfortunately it wont fit in the only space i have so it is for sale. It is the original spec machine + the upgrade to a 250GB hard disk. See the post

It is available for collection from Bristol or at cost price by Courier.

See my feedback on ebay (same userid).

Cheers, dan

can i ask a few questions
1) how would u turn this into a normal pc (and woudl it be ok as a pc)
2) what can i do with the server for exampel in my house i have 2 pc's and a laptop what could this do for me (i no it can be a print server and file server etc but any idea's how all that is set up)

well, a few things;

it is supposed to be a server, so to make it a 'normal' pc it would need:

1. sound card (not a prob)
2. video card upgrade (this is *possible* but not trivial with the SC440 - basically Dell have modded the PCI express slots so that the connector and pins are non-stadard so you would need to mod on e of the slots or the card)

wrt using it as a server, it is ideal for streaming / serving media (e.g. passing data to any devices eg other pc's/laptops/xbox 360's! etc... you could set it up using windows home server for automated backups of all your network data too... ;-)

in the words of someone wise, the possibilities are, erm, plentiful ;-)

All interest regarding the item must be kept strictly on the thread. Not PMs

Hi, Is this still for sale? I'd be interested in buying it from you, and having it sent to W. London. Any idea how much that would cost? I'll have a look on the Parcelfarce website in the meantime.

Thank you,

Andrew.

hi andrew,

i have upgraded the box -- added a soundcard and installed xp (going to add ubuntu for a dual-boot). if this configuration is of interest let me know but it will obviously change the price a bit. (tbc)

i would have thought courier would be about £15 but i can price it up better if interested)
cheers, dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back to me. Would be interested at or fairly near cost price - I already have spare XP licences etc., and know where to get Ubuntu from - I bought two of these machines already, and wish I'd bought another couple now - so it's either a case of wait till the offer comes round again, or come to an arrangement with someone like you with one to spare or go for one of of the HP ML110 G5's that ebuyer are punting just now (they look like a good deal too).

So, to sum up, if the machine is surplus to your needs I'm happy to help you turn it into cash once more at a reasonable price, but if you have plans to sell it on with added value then I'm probably not your best customer (since I work in IT and am not likely to pay much for something I can do myself!)..

Did yours come with the 250GB Seagate ST3250620NS drive? Was quite impressed with that - I was half expecting some ****** Fujitsu drive that would die a week after the warranty is up (I speak from experience)!

Anyway, let me know what you have in mind and we'll see what gives.

Andrew.

hi andrew

yeh, seagate 250gb drive and its all impressively quiet and well built actually! are you in a rush for it and do you have an price offer (soundcard and poss video card upgrade going in and i might put another drive in) ?

cheers, dan
