I share your pain. I went to 5 places a few weekends back before I got one (including Ikea which had sold 300 in 2 hours).
I eventually got mine from Asda, so maybe try there.

It looks like a big bowl with a lip going down to the ground and the screws go through the edge. HOWEVER, I did find that, even when they were all fully screwed in, there was still room between the screws and the tree. It balanced but the trunk was about 1cm too thin...and we got a 6 foot one!

If you've got a skinny trunk, this may not be the best...unless you want to get technical and block it with some wood you may have lying around!

I found one in clasohlson after I called every store I thought would sell. £15 but I don't care. I got the tree for £1 yesterday. Merry christmas everyone.:)
