:?: What guarantees are there that DVD's you buy off e-bay are genuine articles and not copies, like the ones you get at the local market?
I have been tempted to bid but always think that I will end up with an inferior copy.

By checking out their feedback.

I suppose that is reliable? There is no way they can set up additional accounts and rate themselves is there?

You can ask seller a question, ask if the dvd is region 2 (europe) and if its real

Thanks everyone. I will take the plunge and bid for a couple.

I'd echo the previous comment about asking a question, but would add that you need to do your sums and do your research.

Remember that you usually have to pay P&P on top of the winning bid, which often makes the item MORE expensive than buying new off one of the many various sites on the InterWeb !.

I'm not saying that you can't get the bargains out there - just need to be careful

there are no guarantees EVER ;) even if u check the feedback and it's great.

some sellers advertise the fact that it's a copy or what region it is, etc, but others blatantly sell illegal copies or dodgy rubbish assuming that you won't do anything about it.

unless it's listed as a backup copy which you 'promise to destroy' ( ) then a copy on ebay is illegal. if u buy a dvd and it wasn't listed as a copy but it is, make sure you get a full refund AND report it to ebay :)

ive given up buying dvds off ebay unless I cant find it elsewhere, as they are so cheap to buy new now, even new releases drop within a few weeks.

I got Die Hard 4 off Ebay...was a copy. most wouldnt have noticed tbh but I did due to being a film buff...

best copy I have ever seen, dual layer disc, perfect quality all round....messaged them and they told me to keep item and gave refund...havent even bothered replacing it, its as good as the actual DVD

Most off the DVDs I have bought have all being genuine, I buy used though rather than new. Besides under the seller protection thing, if you happen to receive a pirated DVD then message the seller, chances are you'll get your money back and a free DVD.
