Brand new - received last Tuesday. Only opened to check contents. Not powered on. Bought following the deal posted here ~10 days ago. When I bought it I wasn't really sure but I thought I would have plenty of time to cancel as the delivery time quoted was long. After thinking some more I decided that I wanted a 17". I did try to cancel but by then it was too late.

The service tag is 8BRWK3J which can be checked at http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?c=us&l=en&s=gen

The same system today is £619 on the dell site.

With listing fees, final value selling fees and paypal fees, the total come out at less than 10%. :?

ebay has its advantages such as a much larger marketplace. If that costs me more then so be it.

Yes, as long as you can avoid the scammers on there (they target laptop sellers and often claim non delivery etc to paypal and make successful claims), you should easily be able to cover the fees and more on top of the price listed here. Make your listing as difficult for scammers as possible though - obvious point, but so many people falling into silly traps these days by letting greed cloud common sense. Good luck.

Thanks Liddle ol' me - having read http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/11/ebay_laptop_auction/comments/ I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't withdraw my ebay listing too :(

Is there anyway to sell a high value item like a laptop safely on ebay? I guess cheque or cash in hand on collection are safe?

After all this returning to Dell seems like the safest bet although it would be good if someone else were to get this laptop for less than Dell charge...

What's going on here? The OP seems to have posted a message twice in the last 20 mins but I can't find either. OP, could you explain? Are you posting messages and then immediately deleting? If so, why?

EDIT: ah ok, there it is!

Personally I'd return it to Dell. And btw, before anyone would consider taking it here, you'd need to post pictures with your name next to it. And you have never answered the question about how much you paid for it. Not a great way of gaining people's trust and confidence on here...

Not sure if you are still able to offer laptops without offering paypal - ebay make it compulsory on items that have a lots of scams, so presume this is such a case.

I was wondering what was going on too!

I think my message (well I made 2 attempts to post actually) included a link which meant the post had to be reviewed before it was visible. Anyway I have now removed the link and successfully posted. Please ignore my last 2 posts which include links if they ever do appear.

If an admin is reading this then you are welcome to stop the posts that went for review from being displayed.

I did answer the question about how much I paid - see above post made yesterday at 18:13

Liddle ol' me - you are correct. ebay do make paypal compulsory at least for laptops.

I'm curious about your comment regarding posting a photo with my name. Do people have to do this on the hotukdeals site or is this something you dreamt up today? As someone who works in the computer security industry for a very well known company stopping spam getting into your inbox, I strongly recommend against posting any personal details on a public forum. If people need reassurance about a seller then I suggest using PMs. Personal details can then be kept private at least between buyer and seller.

lol - no I didn't dream it up. It is commonly used to verify someone has what they say they have. And I didn't mean your real name, but your username on here...
#16
Now you're making some sense and wouldn't be a problem should I sell on here...

i didnt have to take paypal for my laptop i sold on ebay.
#18
I tried changing it tonight but it said that paypal had to be one of the options unfortunately.

How long ago did you sell yours on ebay?
#19
After some more googling I found on ebay it's possible to accept paypal with "confirmed address only". In theory that should help prevent being scammed by the buyer.

Wandering back onto topic....

I'm amazed at people selling / buying high value items on ebay - the chances of getting a bargain are ridiculously low and the opportunities to be ripped off are conversley very high.

Cheap sub £30 items only, that's all fleabay is good for.

Feedback is a joke as most buyers want to retain their 100% positive so constantly let ***** service / products go by and say nothing.
