If you paid for the purchase by credit card, then you will have a receipt - if nothing else your Crdit Card statement or if a Debit Card, a bank statement. You do not need a receipt to take an item back.

If someone in PC World advised you that it WOULD work with a Mac then they certainly SHOULD taske it back since they advised you wrongly.

Go try taking it back for a full refund.

I have one of these working on my iMac and have done so with no problems for almost a year now. I think you need to format it using Disc Utility. (Located in the Utilities folder)

Yes it is. Plug it in and reformat it as a Mac Journaled drive - all is good.

Just want to get rid of it. Brought another one.

LOL

You don't need to make an Ebay account (useless as it is as you will have no feedback!) but you MUST keep all trading in the thread until a deal has been struck.

You did read the rules didn't you?

Seems like you're trying to verify disk on the first aid tab in disk utility. Try the "erase" tab on disk utility to reformat it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This has worked for me in the past.

The "erase" tab was not enabled. So I didn't have that option.

If you're running Leopard, try to backup using Time Machine, it may ask you if it's ok to reformat the disk, and will do so without involving disk utility. Also try plugging it in to your router as a NAS box, and see if it mounts correctly. WD drives also ship with shoddy USB cables, so try using another. Hope it works out, it'd be a shame to lose money because of a compatibility problem.

From what i gathered from your problem report it would seem that there is some corruption on the drive, hence the reason why it will not format.

Do you have access to a Windowz PC? If so try and format it as NTFS there and then bring it back to the Mac to format it as Mac Journaled.

The Windows format will sort out any corruption issues that the Mac format utility cannot.

If you get the same problem on the Windows box, well then your drive is up the swanny.

Manage to exchange it at PC World with a Pro Edition Version :-)

Thanks everyone.
