what are you trying to control?? i believe it will control windows media player and i suspect it will control DVD software (e.g. WinDVD etc). It is a generic Windows Media Center remote so if whatever you are trying to control supports such remotes it should be fine.

p&p, £2 (it might be a bit more but i can take the hit on anything over!) ;-)
