For Sale - Faulty Fuji finepix E550 digital camera

Faulty Fuji finepix E550, 6.3 megapixels, 4x Optical zoom.

There is a problem with the lens sticking -- when you switch the camera on, the lens moves slightly in & out, and then the camera powers off.

Camera comes in original box, with usb cable, manual & software.

I'd like £18-ish delivered, or £1 less if paying with a cheque.

I have 2000+ feedback on ebay if you would like to check it out.

Hiya Greyskittles
I'd like to express an interest in this camera,

Can you answer honestly on the following please.
Has the camera been taken apart to try and fix ?
What exactly have you tried to do, if anything to fix the problem ?
Has the lens been damaged at all by handling or whatever ?
Is the lens stuck out permanently or does it go in and out on powering up ?

Many thanks in advance for answering the above.
If I decide to buy it will you accept Bank Transfer ?
I will obviously comply with all forum rules and would expect the same from the seller.

Look forward to hearing from you :)

Hi.

I bought this camera back in 2005 and it worked fine for over a year. then the problem with the lens developed. I sent it back to fuji and they replaced the entire lens unit with a new one, and again it worked fine.

A few months later the same problem happened again so I gave up on it. I have never personally taken apart the camera - wouldn't know how to!

There is info on the internet regarding the problem with the lens sticking, which says you should twist the lens to release it - I tried, but it wouldn't budge.

When I switch the camera on, the screen flashes on for a second, the lens move in (it is stuck out) and then back out again, then the screen switches off again.

Hope that helps!

Many thanks for your honest reply. I'm going to have to withdraw interest as you have already tried what I would have.
I should explain a friend had the same camera with the same fault which is why I was interested. They fixed theirs by the following means although I suspect you have already tried the fix from what you have written.

I had the same problem with mine and I tried several suggestions, BUT the only one that has worked is to gently grab the lens, pull it out as far as it will go until fully extended. While keeping it extended turn the lens to the right until you hear a click. Once you hear the click, release the lens and turn the power button on and then back off again. This should take care of the problem. A word of warning. ALWAYS make sure your fingers do not touch the front of the lens when you power on the camera. Even the slightest bit of obstruction seems to make the problem reoccur. Another note. I had tried this several times until I finally heard the click, so please don't give up on it, just keep trying. This will work and it will save you a lot of time and money having it fixed.

Have another go and see if it works, I sincerely hope it does for you :)
If not good luck with your sale.

Kind regards  :)
