For Sale: *Faulty* iBook G3 and some notebook RAM

The iBook appears to be working fine although over the past couple of days the screen has been switching itself off, I think that it is a loose connection, so possibly very easy and cheap to fix. Worst case scenario is that it needs a screen replacement, which I know can be purchased for less than £50. Only reason for sale is because I can't make it to my Apple store anytime before I leave for Afghanistan to have it diagnosed officially. I bought the iBook from here a few months ago for £200 and it is in excellent condition considering age. This could still be used with a DVI cable to a monitor and would make a great little base station. Specs are 800Mhz PPC, 640Mb RAM, 30Gb HDD, Airport Wireless. This could be an investment to someone as it is easily worth £200 when working fully again. Also have the original instructions and the OS X (10.2) discs and a carry case, although 10.4 is installed and will probably have to be left on it!

I am asking for £100ono delivered by courier.

I also have the 2 x 1Gb 200pin SODIMMs that I removed from my Macbook when I upgraded. They are the stock Apple RAM that the Macbooks come with. They do fit in a lot of laptops but make sure at crucial.com if your not sure. I have kept the packaging from my upgraded RAM to send this in.

I would like £11 delivered for the RAM.

1 stick of RAM sold :)

I believe this is the newer stuff, my Macbook was bought in september and these sticks were what was shipped within it.

Ok no worries.

What condition is the mac in? Does it have dvdrw or just cd/dvd drive? Screen the only issue? Does screen flicker when moved or just go off completely? Battery life etc?

It is in used but I would say excellent condition for year. small use scratches on the glossy part of the case. it only has the CD drive. the screen does flicker before going dead and is very intermittent. the battery life is fine, I don't remember how long it lasts, but I would say at least 2 hours browsing time.

I have always fancied a play with a mac but funds have always been short and windows pc's cheap enough.

My other concern is the speed of the laptop as it would be very dated for a windows pc so wondering how it performs etc.

Screen may be an easy fix or need a complete screen so with that in mind I will offer you £70 inc as not even sure I need one or want one till I try one lol.

Well, I know from a lot of experience that Mac's as a whole use a lot less processing speed and RAM capacity so they always run smoother and faster than the windows counterpart.

I'm sorry I cannot accept 70 as this is worth 200+ when fixed. I know it might need a new screen, but there is still profit even after a screen purchase. I'd rather hang onto it for that and use a monitor with it.

Ok no probs. Like I say I don't really need one and I am just curious really and thats all I could afford if it needed a screen on top to sort it. Especially when this acer I got new a month ago was less than 200 quid delivered.

Cheers anyway.

Sure they do but no idea why to be honest. I like value for money above anything else.

I know this acer 5310 is not high spec but I don't do games or anything high powered so even though it's a celeron m 1.6 with 2g ram it handles vista fine with no issues (apart from vista is pants lol). But it's new with a years warranty and one of the nicest screens I have seen and all for £197 inc del you can go wrong.

So you can see why I offered what I did as it's 5 yrs old ish, faulty screen, no dvd etc and if it needs a screen second hand is all you can get for £50 which then makes it a pretty expensive old laptop if you see where i am coming from. A £150 new netbook would prob be a better use of my money really.

Good luck though as I am sure you will sell easy enough:thumbsup:

Item Received. Feedback Left.

I suspected at first it was the screen inverter playing up. It was never going to be the screen itself that was the problem. I took it all apart and noticed that giving the GPU a bit of a smack made the screen blip. It seemed like the GPU was just not making enough contact with the board (also a common fault with xbox 360's with error codes 0102, 3 red lights)

In the end it cost me 3 pence to fix. No, really. I took 3 pennies and superglued them to the metal back plate in the GPU area. Thereby not only helping to disperse heat like a small mini heat-sink but also increase overall pressure. When the case was screwed back in place the pennies were putting pressure onto the GPU and keeping the connection solid and clear.

I've had it running since 4pm and not a single problem yet =D

Many thanks for a smooth and pleasent transaction.
