Hi everyone,

I've got for sale here a brand new mint unlocked and debranded Nokia 6120 classic. It was originally supplied to me by 3 UK and I've no use for it since I actually have two of these! To cut a long story short, I took out a 3 UK contract (with this phone model), then 3 changed some terms and conditions which let me terminate my contract without penalty. Then I signed up again and opted for the same phone (this one)! It's been sitting unused for a while now and I only just got round to listing it now.

It was unlocked with an unlocking code supplied by 3 (so it hasn't been opened up or tampered with in anyway. It has been debranded and flashed with the latest generic firmware (version 6.01) so no buggy/laggy 3 specific software on it. You can see from the seperate pictures below running a 3 sim and also T-Mobile sim that it is network unlocked.

The phone itself is absolutely brand new (the lifetimer picture shows 000000:00) - there are no scratches or marks anywhere on it and the original new screen protector is still on the screen. It was opened up briefly to check that everything is complete and the unlock/debrand it. In the course of taking pictures, I noticed that there isn't actually any operator branding at all on the phone (i.e. no physical 3 markings on the front or back). Something that I hadn't actually noticed since my other one does! Please refer to the pictures.

I'll also add in a 512MB MicroSD memory card (with SD adapter) with the phone, which didn't come with the phone originally.

If you don't know anything about the Nokia 6120c, it's actually a very impressive and capable device. Despite it's diminuitive dimensions, it's a fully fledged smartphone at heart with high speed HSDPA data capability (it'll utilise 3G as well as normal GSM). If you want you can choose to install a multitude of applications and games on the phone. I believe it's possible to install Skype and use it for free calls on 3.

One final thing to add is that I have a SymbianSigned developer certificate for this phone. If you don't know what this is for, it is used for signing unsigned 3rd party applications to use on the phone. You don't have to mess about with hacking the phone in anyway to get your (unsigned) applications to work! I'll also include this on the memory card.

The phone comes complete as new and includes:

Nokia 6120c handset
Nokia Battery
512MB MicroSD memory card
SD Adapter for Memory card
Connectivity cable
Power charger
Headset / earphones (never been used)
Manuals and software on CD
SymbianSigned Certificate
Original Box

Thank you for looking!

Price includes delivery by Royal Mail Next (Working) Day Special Delivery.

It's already at a very good price. ;-) This model is extremely hard to find unlocked - and it doesn't actually have any branding on the front or covers.

However, I'd be willing to move down a little to £80 including delivery.

Yes it is. The only thing different is that mine is white and unlocked to any network. It's also unbranded, so you don't have to put up with any operator specific branding, software or bugs.

Thought it was - about to buy one of these - just unsure whether to go with the 3 deal or get yours.

I can get one from 3 for £90 on a 6 month contract - 300mins plus 300 3-3 mins and £30 Quidco - so only £60. Is the unlock and Symbian really valuable?

You can only unlock these by either requesting a code from 3 (which will mean you paying up the rest of your contract term if you have one and a £15 'admin' fee) or going to your local unlocking place which will still cost around £10-£15 (if they can do it at all since Nokia smartphones are more complicated to unlock than most). I don't think that I need to explain the benefits of a phone being unlocked - it's so that you can use any sim from any operator you like in the phone. It comes very handy when going abroad for example and you can buy a local prepaid sim card and use that instead of the crazy roaming rates our operators here love to charge (even more so with 3 since they've just discontinued the '3 Like Home' service). Also it means that you can choose to use whichever operator in the UK you like, not just 3 on any sim only plans, some of which run on a 30 day rolling contract (so no lock in period should reception be really bad in your area) or even pay as you go if you wish.

With regards to debranding - it's usually more of a personal choice but it offers the intended operating software for the phone from the manufacturer. With unbranded software, all phones usually run faster and smoother because they include the latest updates and fixes and without any operator specific software that they impose on you. You are in control and install what software you want not what they think you should have. Most operator specific software run the previous versions of software that might include bugs and errors and can be slow to update (if they bother to issue an update at all) since they need to do 'testing'.

One handy thing in the case of using 3, using unbranded software means that you can choose to use the phone on GSM only to get a better signal in dodgy 3G areas using the Orange network. 3 hate you doing this as they have to pay money to Orange to use their network but what are you going to do when the switchover from rubbish 3G signal to GSM takes ages and usually means a dropped call? It's even worse when you are in an area of great GSM signal and poor 3G signal and it tries to flick back and forth. In these circumstances, I just set it to use GSM signals only and the problem is solved.

I will say that unlocking and debranding, if you don't know what you are doing isn't without it's dangers, you can render your phone unusable until you get it professionally fixed. What I'm offering is the phone for less than the retail price of what you can buy at 3 and with the benefits of it being unlocked and unbranded. Whether or not you see these benefits of value to you is entirely up to you.

Sorry for the really long post but I just wanted to explain everything in as much detail as I can to help you make up your mind. :)
