Hello.

I'm after buying a Freeview twin tuner recorde for my dear old gran this Christmas (she can't miss her soaps!). I can only spend around the £60 mark.

Any of you experts out there have any ideas? Or can point me in the right direction?

Any help you can throw my way will be truly appreciated and make a lovely old lady's Christmas.

Thank you

Try Ebay...I got one for £57 that had an RRP of £160 at the time, cheapest at the time online was £140

Thank you Solar Flare but I've stayed away from ebay because I won't pay for things through Pay Pal - I got stung by a fake website (which was Pay Pal accredited and they didn't refund any of my money).

lol...its ODB_69 dude or ODB for short...Solar Flare is the status you get after 1000 posts...whereas yours is Flint until you pot more and will change a few times until you hit 1k.

cant say i blame you, heard a lot of horro Ebay/Paypal stories...dont use it as much myself anymore cause there obvo useless...

Maybe try Lidl/Aldi..they sometimes have good electronics deals...my parents bought a DVD player from there ages ago that played EVERYTHING thrown at it...was totally silent, looked good and has lasted years.....

much better than my £200 DVD player that didnt last that and had less features....so they saved £175 on a BETTER player lol

Solar Flare? You talking to me?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321344/Trail/searchtext%3EFREEVIEW.htm

£79.99 for a brand spanker, which apparently is not as bad as some.

By the way, do you not think the fake website may have faked a paypal logo on it too?

If you have a argos voucher and a few nectar points I guess you could get it down to near the £60 mark?

by the way... some people would say the technology in any of these"freeview+" boxes is not up to scratch. Certainly for the elderly.

Thank you vibeone. I've seen that I think I might go for it - I'll just try to get the price down now!! I am a little worried she might get a bit overwhelmed but I'm going to set it all up for her and put her soaps on series link!! Wish I could afford to pay for Sky+ for her but I can just about pay for mine a month!!

As it's a present I really want to go for something new and something I can take back if it has any problems (these tend to). Thank you though smasha7

The fake website could have done that but Paypal should be monitoring them and should protect the people who use it. I'm never going to give them my business again!!

i know this is off topic...but what you are asking for is impossible, and you are being completely unfair to paypal.

Thanks Lew but I want new as it's a present. And Solar Flare I'm not being unfair ask all the other people who were robbed by gamechimp.co.uk

Another option is BT give you one for free when you take their broadband

Thanks for the name of the site, I've had a look, and it seems many people got scammed. Hopwever, the HK address would have been enough to stop my purchase.

However, sad as it is for you, this is nothing to do with paypal. If Paypal had to refund everyone who couldn't stop a dodgy site - there wouldn't be a paypal.

Paypal can be a pain in the **** - but in this case, it was your fault for being scammed, and you have no right to force Paypal to refund you. Go after the real crooks instead of basically asking a random bloke in the street to foot the bill instead.

Oh and its 'vibeone'

Sorry vibeone - trying to do too many things at once! And yes I learnt my lesson but would not have gone for it without the paypal logo on it. Thought that protected me. I did go after them but nothing happened.

#(I'm only going on about this so you can hopefully understand the situation)...

I could put the logo on any site I want. Look I'll do it now:

https://www.paypal.com/en_GB/GB/i/logo/paypal_logo.gif

Paypal cannot police the internet, or stop people putting their logo on their site. Nor can they refund people who have been scammed - its just not possible. I'll not post again, but you should really give paypal another go - at least on ebay where you WILL in most cases be fully protected.

No... I was trying to point out you were wrong, in a nice way. But clearly you are too stupid to realise you are talking out of your ****. You getting conned was NOTHING to do with paypal. I'll give up now - its pointless.
#24
It was a joke vibeone so chill. I said it's my mistake. But paypal were giving people refunds at first then stopped. Why did they not report it so that people like me would have stayed away from the website? I checked to see if anyone was posting up bad comments at the time and there were none. Thank you for your help though...

I feel compelled to put in my four penny worth about PayPal. I don't work for them and I have nothing to gain.

My credit card is linked to my PayPal account, I never pay directly from my bank account. If something goes wrong and I get no joy from PayPal then I can seek redress from the credit card company.

If something has gone wrong on Ebay I have always been refunded.
