I have 2 nights booked at this hotel which unfortunately we can't use anymore and it's non-refundable. The hotel is currently charging £89 per room per night, so this is a bargain at £40 for both nights.

"Set in the heart of the beautiful Surrey countryside, Gorse Hill offers a relaxed, intimate manor house with Comfortable en-suite rooms, free internet access, tea & coffee tray, iron, trouser press, hairdryer & TV. All rooms are located in the Courtyard or Lodge. "

It's on a room only basis but there is a restaurant and bar in the hotel so breakfast and other meals are available. (Perfect location if you have Top Gear tickets I'm told! :-S)

"Bedrooms: 50 new stylish design, en suite, free high speed internet access, LCD TV with Sky Channels, Laptop safes, DDI Telephones, tea and coffee tray

Leisure-time: 5-a-side football pitch, croquet, pool table, tennis court

Food & Drink: Restaurant & bar, free flowing cappuccinos, lattes and green tea stations, internet cafe

Techie: Free internet access throughout, LCD, plasma and audio-visual equipment

Parking: 80 spaces"

Shipping/Payment:
I'd prefer payment by Paypal gift if possible and I've been told by the hotel it's no problem to change the name on the booking.

It's a Double, but I guess it would be easy to change it to a Twin or Single if required.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and check, but they may charge extra. Think it could just be used for one night if you wanted.

most hotels will change the dates, when refund isnt possible. perhaps you could still use. if you explain most are quite helpful. they want to retain your custom for future if they can. have done this before a couple of times when i had no choice.

I called them and explained we couldn't make the dates anymore, but the lady was quite abrupt and told me no refunds and that the booking had to be used before the end of August as it was a special deal so even if changed there would be an additional charge to make it up to £89 per night.

I thought they might do it as a one-off - like you say most hotels are quite good, but maybe I caught her on a bad day? :-(

gosh, i think you did, worth asking for duty manager though, if this doesnt pan out for you, sooner of course rather than later. spin some story like you will be a returning customer if it all goes well. i cant get over some silly people in customer environment. personally would email devere customer services as they can be great, though with your luck you might come across another muppet.

Know what you mean about some people in the customer environment - you'd think it wouldn't be an issue to change it especially as the nights of the 28th & 29th seem to be sold out now so they must have demand there for them to be rebooked by someone else if they allow me to change it. I'll give Customer Services a try....fingers crossed! Thanks for the advice :thumbsup:
