so are these used instead of a router? does the DSL get plugged into these? or are these used as wireless receptors for the router and then ethernet into the device i.e laptop or xbox?

You still need a router.

These allow you a wired connection to your router by running through your electrical socket.

You plug one into a socket next to your router and then a small ethernet cable to your router.
The other plug is plugged into a socket next to the device eg PS3, PC , Laptop etc

They are worth getting if you have bad/no wireless signal due to being too far from the router but don't want a long messy cable running through your house.

Aww ok I don't have bad signal or anything but i presume that these will only spit out the speeds that they can get from the router?

Still trying to get my head around them - so could i theoretically have my xbox wired with these? as i am currently using my laptop to bridge the connection to my xbox?

Also can they be used with ADSL routers etc?

And would it be better if i upgraded to a "N" powered router? (was going to anyway)

Your router is will most likely support speeds of 1000mbps so will actually be able to support speeds much higher than these adapters need.

an N router is related to the strength and speed of the wireless signal so it wont affect how these adapters perform.

I used them with an ADSL router and work perfectly. Believe they work with either cable or adsl though.

Yes you can have your Xbox wired with them. I used to use them with my PS3 and provided excellent connection and ralmost never have a dropout with these compared to wireless.
