Does this work the same as an official one? Would Microsoft block the console if it knew an unofficial hard drive was in it?

Have you checked if it's actually a 250gb or if its a spoofed 120 or lower?

No microsoft doesn't have a problem with them, it's like using a third party controller or USB stick.
Although I have heard there's a chance it wouldn't play old xbox 1 games, but I don't have any to test it out on.

I assume I could check this by hooking it up to my PC?
If so I can check for you if you're interested, but I think it should be OK.

Just to add clarity, I have one from focalprice and have tested it on my 360, and I believe it will play original Xbox games (well, atleast mine did).

If it isn't spoofed then I think I'll take it

they do not play xbox one games as there is no partitions set up for the emulators etc, it's just one partition for 360 games installation, XBLA, etc.. Though if this bothers you there are "360 HDD partition fixers" out there which will sort it all out, then you just put the xbox1 emulator files on, again which are available if you ask your friend google..
