I've just put together a 380Gb mini-itx pc in a custom case as a Windows Home Server but am now having to downgrade to a standalone NAS unit after SWMBO failed to get on with the server!
The components are made up of;
VIA M10000 1.0Ghz Nehemiah Mini-ITX board
380Gb HDD (80Gb & 300Gb 3.5" IDE drives spanned in WHS)
90w Silent fanless Pico-Psu with external power brick
PCI Gigabit NIC (as well as integrated 10/100 NIC)
Zalman Fanmate fan speed controller
Custom case, formerly a Video CD player which is approximately 8" wide x 10" deep by 4" high so is high enough to hold two 3.5" drives stacked.
I bought the motherboard used from another forum and the PSU/Brick/Gigabit NIC/IO backplate brand new from ITX-Warehouse and Micro Direct. In total I've paid approximately £130 for the components and it is currently running a 120 Day (activated) Windows Home Server build but I could rebuild it to Windows 7 (RC1) if required. As it is currently configured, the WHS OS streams perfectly to my PS3 and is configured to perform scheduled backups of my laptop so will bring it out of sleep to perform the backup and then put it back to sleep afterwards. As an example of performance, the first backup (approximately 15Gb) took 25 minutes to complete over Gigabit LAN. Following this backup, all subsequent backups are much quicker as only new/changed documents are backed up.
I'm interested in trades for photography kit (canon fit) but would also be happy to sell the complete unit for £100 including delivery. This would make an excellent browsing/office PC as well if there is no need for a server. If you would like to provide your own case, I'm happy to sell the components without the custom case for £85.
PC will be shipped using either RMSD or courier.
Payments accepted via bank transfer, cash or cheque. I've had too many bad experiences with Paypal so no longer have an account.
