I have for sale the following...

Acer Aspire 7520 Laptop in good working condition.
Athlon 64 X2 TK-55 (1.8GHz, 2 x 256 KB L2 Cache)
Up to 384MB Nvidia Geforce 7000M with Turbocache
1GB DDR 2 Memory
80GB HDD (9GB used as system restore partition)
17" WXGA+ Acer CrystalBrite LCD
DVD Super Multi Double Layer Drive
802.11 b/g WLAN
Brand new AS07B51 Li-ion batter holding 2hrs+ charge
4 USB ports
Card Reader
SVideo Out
VGA Out
1394 port
modem
10/100 network
Expresscard 54 port.

It comes with a charger and an installed Vista Home Premium with COA on the bottom of the unit. It is around 2 years old for those who want to know.

The machine is immaculate apart from a few marks on the bottom of the unit, the screen is bright and dead pixel free and everything is as it should be.

There is one small problem with it which would seem to be software based. Every now and again Vista reports that a service has stopped working. After a reinstall last night and a load of checking on the internet this seems to be a common fault in laptops for some reason with no apparent fix. I dont have the patience or time to look into this but I would assume it is an easy fix for someone with the knowhow. It would make a great Linux laptop, or failing that shoving Windows 7 on it would be an option too as would XP I would assume.

Its a vista issue but seems to be predominently laptop based for some reason. Initially it was SVCHost that stopped working, but after a reinstall last night one of the Acer programs casused a process to stop. This morning it has not had any issues at all, which is strange. Would have liked to have installed Windows 7 or Linux to properly test it out but not had the time or chance really.

Hmm ok , my dad is kind of interested in the laptop, is the price negotiable .

Not entirely sure , just wanted to see if the price was movable.
#10
Can the ram be upgraded at all , if so what type , and to what amount.
#11
Ram can be upgraded to 4GB maximum, either PC2-6400 or PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot (it has 2 slots).
#12
whats the battery life like?
#13
the battery is only a few months old (i bought a new one after the original one lost charge). This one holds 2+ hours depending on what you are doing of course.
#14
Bump 1 - Price dropped to £200 delivered.
#15
intersted in a western digital hd tv media player and 250gb passport hdd or samsung blu ray + films?
#16
would u still be interested in my aspire one as a trade for this?

can u tell me if theres any warranty left and can this service problem be fixed by reinstalling vista?
#17
Alicom007 - It is out of warranty, it is around 2 years old. A fresh install of Vista still gives these errors, although the machine is totally usable apart from these annoying nag windows every now and again telling you that a particular service has stopped working. I have restored from the factory image on the HDD and these problems still seem to be happening. It is Vista Home Premium for the record, and has been 100% working without the errors until yesterday when i booted it up. I spent a few hours looking up this problem on the net and it would seem that it is more common on laptops then desktop machines. Something to do with the BITS service in VIsta playing silly ******s. As I said it works perfectly apart from the nag window on boot up telling me that one process or another has stopped working. I might try another OS on it later tonight if it does not sell by then to see if it is Vista that is causing the problems, althogh I am 99% sure it is. The image on the HDD could also be corrupted I suppose. A reinstall of another OS will determine this though I would assume.

Mini0ne - Really after a netbook to be honest mate, although thanks for the offers of trades, its appreciated.
#18
do u think if i replace the hard drive the problem will go?
#19
Alicom007 - Its possible. I have changed the ram from the 2GB Crucial I upgraded to form the 1GB Hynix that came with it and the problems are less apparent, but again without installing another OS its hard to say what the problem is exaclty. I dont have another HDD to try unfortunately, but again the HDD was one of the issues that could be a causing factor, but again I am virtually convinced that Vista is the problem.
#20
can u try xp over this weekend and see if the problems go?
how much do you want on top of the aspire one? ill include the scanned reciept with it.
#21
I can try XP on it tonight, although I am taking the kids to the sea side tomorrow due to the sun coming out to play :)

As for trading, if XP is ok on it, I will remove the Vista OEM off the bottom but will include the 2GB of Crucial ram if you want it and will want £50 on top of the Aspire One if thats acceptable to you?

I'll basically be trading the Vista license for 2GB of memory (which roughly equates to the same amount of money) or I can leave the Vista license on it and just supply it with the 1GB of ram it has in it. Unless you want the 2GB of ram of course and we can work out a deal that way.

Either way, I will test it with XP and give you an honest opinion on its installation but will not be including it on the HDD as I do not have a license for it, just to keep it leagal like. Unless you would prefer me to install Windows 7 on it?

Im off out for a bit now so wont be able to post back here till about 10pm (unless I can get my mobile to access this web page, in which case i will update as and when i can)
#22
sorry didnt get the 2GB, 1GB thing. can u repeat it please.
if u can test the xp and check that its working fine then ill be happy to trade.
thats fine if u keep vista ive got a xp license i can use.
#23
ooh i got it. i would prefer the license to the RAM. could you do 40 ontop if it works? i would need to be paying postage which will bring it up to 50 altogether.
#24
Ah the wonders of mobile broadband!

Anyway, will check xp on it tomight and get back to you later tonight. Will meet you halfway at £45 in regards to the money on top and will include the vista license assuming xp is ok on it. Again will update later tonight.

ok thanks:thumbsup: let me know once youve tried.
#26
how about i pay £50 and u include the 2GB as well?
#27
Alicom007 - Nice try mate but its £45 with the 1GB I am afraid. The 2GB I bought from crucial so would have the be compensated fairly for it, otherwise I will just keep it for the Aspire One or whatever else I manage to get hold of.

Im halfway through installing XP, need to pop out to Asda for a few bits, will post back at about 11pm to let you know how it goes.

was worth a try:-D

ok will check it at 11 or in the morning. oh and also do u have the box or recovery cds etc for it?
#29
No box sorry. No recovery cd's either as Acers do not come with them. Besdies I had to delete the recovery partition to get XP to install.
