The problem with the box, was the brown tape on the bottom wasnt secured to the box, so obviously cds being the slimmest slipped through.

I dont dispute the phone arrived wrapped well and all seemed ok. But yesterday my OH had trouble with the rollerball, and upon further inspection (following advice on how to clean the rollerball) underneath was discoloured and the ball is still sticking.

Again, i dont dispute the fact that the phone may well have been in fully working order when it left the sellers hands, i know phones are fragile, epsecially the smaller parts.
But without the rollerball working, the phone is pretty useless, and would probably cost more than we paid for the phone to fix it, so we're just going to go and buy another.

It was just the disappointment of recieving the phone and it going wrong so quickly.

you can buy new rollerballs pretty cheaply i believe a few quid off ebay so you could always try replace the whole little system for a new one then it may work perfectly as they have never been the most successfully designed parts of a blackberry,

as youve allready delved inside the phone to try repair the rollerball and fiddled around with it allready id suggest giving that ago, there are videos on how to do it all on youtube and they all says it relatively easy, all you need is a little screwdriver and can do it yourself so it defs doesnt cost load to replace a trackball

i wouldnt have advised going into to the phone originally if it arrived slightly faulty, but thats just my opinion
#31
should have done your research on this phone before purchasing as the rollerball was a temperamental part of it hence why the newer 9700 has optical track pad.

But as joeprosho said above you can get the rollerballs cheap off ebay might as well give it a go for a couple of quid instead of paying for another phone
