i got the d610 and there great laptops good luck with your sale

Slight error in your listing, the Pentium-m (Banias) at 1.6Ghz can match a Pentium4 processor (Northwood) at around 2.5ghz, you'd need a beefier frontside bus and higher clocks (Dothan pretty much) to match a P4 at 3Ghz+

well i bought this from dell who told me that it was equiv of 3.2ghz and is being sold elsewhere as 3.2ghz
#7
It is not being sold 'everywhere else' as a 3.2Ghz processor because it is not - when the processor was originally launched the clockspeed caused confusion which is where the incorrect 2x multiplier came from. I don't ever remember seeing Dell selling it this way either unless it was one of the sales representatives that told you this. There are some benchmarks for the Pentium-m 1.6Ghz here:

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=1800&p=13

In some cases the Pentium-m 1.6Ghz can slightly surpass the Pentium4 but bear in mind that's the best case scenario which is still nowhere near the 3.2Ghz mark. Furthermore the P4 of this time is the old Northwood 'B', there were a couple more Pentium4's after this one which were faster clock for clock.

i didnt say it was being sold "everywhere else" i said it was being sold "elsewhere"

for example - ebay sellers selling the same laptops with the same mention of equivalent to 3.2ghz, dell selling the laptop to me as a 3.2ghz equivalent and quite frankly i'd believe dell not some 3rd party webpage as i've bought from them manys a time with no issues

John - I'm no computer expert, just having a quick read through the thread - but how do you know that the computer being sold doesn't have all of the things that you mentioned?
#10
I have seen them sold elsewhere as a 3.2! Its a very nice laptop good look with your sale!

The Dell D600 is a first generation Pentium-m system which means it uses the Intel 855 chipset along with the 'Banias' processor which had a 400Mhz FSB and 1MB L2 cache. The 855 chipset was only compatible with 400Mhz FSB processors (not the newer 533Mhz based processors which were faster clock for clock), even if this was the slightly newer Dothan based processor with 2MB L2 cache (which I doubt) it still wouldn't be anywhere near a 3.2Ghz processor. Realistically for that sort of performance you would need a Pentium 755 (which ran at 2Ghz) which is definitely not the case here.

Regardless of what other people are selling this processor as, it's not equivalent to a 3.2Ghz processor or anywhere particularly close - I've posted detailed information showing that this processor is roughtly around the 2.5ghz mark for an older Pentium4. Anandtech is one of the most respected tech sites out there, I have bought this generation of laptop from Dell and I don't recall them ever selling this as a 3.2Ghz machine. I'm guessing it's a Dell representative who sold you the machine being equivalent to 3.2Ghz, clearly they will say whatever is needed to get a sale (they still do, they were making up facts for a potential M1330 buyer in the main thread) unlike a tech site which is impartial and properly evaluates the hardware. Furthermore, if you check *any* tech site you will find exactly the same, you are misleading people by claiming this is a 3.2Ghz equivalent processor when it is not.

i am happy with the info that i have that it is equivalent of 3.2 your entitled to your opinion and the info has also been confirmed by a friend of mine who works for dell, i'd appreciate it that rather you keep your opinions to a PM rather than ruin my thread

can anyone at all clear the comments?
#13
If you clear the comments I'll report the thread - you are mis-selling this processor (rather substantially) and I have posted definitive information showing this to be true.

Perhaps rather than try and hide the evidence you should actually post some credible information to back up your claims?

and i have had backup to me saying that it was equivalent to 3.2ghz & also its fact that its on sale elsewhere as 3.2ghz equiv so obviously these computer companies are lying??? i think they know just aswell as anyone & im not the only person thats seen it...and i had it sold to me by dell as a 3.2ghz equivalent and its been confirmed by a friend of mine who works for dell

Email from friend that works at dell
the pentium-m in the d600 you bought is the equiv of 3.2ghz..the 1.4 is equiv of 2.8, 1.5 is 3ghz, 1.6 is 3.2 & 1.7 is 3.4

but in your opening post it says it is a 3.2, not a 1.6
#17
sorry i'll amend that now as i have forgotted the "equiv" - that make it better?
#19
I don't understand why if it is mis-selling to say the Pentium M 1.6Ghz processor is equivalent to the Pentium 4 3.2Ghz processor how so many people get away with it on Ebay?
#20
And how exactly is ebay definitive? Lots of people get away with fraud on ebay, I assume that makes it ok?

I've posted a detailed link showing the exact performance of this processor whereas the only evidence provided that this processor can match a 3.2Ghz processor is that the person's friend at Dell says it's a 3.2GHz processor and that's how they sell them on ebay.

John I think your on your high horse a little about this, I'm not defending the seller, my last post wasn't challenging what was being disputed.

It was more of a wonder why Ebay claims to be such a safe and reliable place to sell yet people can MIS sell as much as that and nothing be done about it.

try reporting it, it can only be removed if its reported, or do you think ebay sit and scour through every auction :? here it has been brought to other members attention by another member, after the reception john got for his posting i bet hes wondering why he bothered, but its people like him that stops others getting ripped off or misled into a purchase that is not what it appears

P.s And we arent all fools, you registered here today and all your three posts are on here, ermmmm now let me think who you could be:roll:

can assure you that this other person is not me

dear me, fair enough with your information John but you don't have to ring out the guy over so many posts. Surely you could just give the 1 post then contact a moderator if you felt the item was still being described wrongly?

Clearly you're not familiar with the term coincidence.
