FS - Faulty PS3 40gb Console - Discs not being sucked in - Console seems to think disc already inside £70.00

Hi Guys,

My one and only PS3 has stopped working on me. It's in very good condition and let me tell you that it's not been heavily used at all. Me and my brothers simply bought it brand new to play the occasional Fifa. We use to have the odd Fifa showdowns when we got the time.

I'm a bit miffed with Sony really and refuse to pay £130 to get something fixed which I shelled out £350 for about 2 years ago. Basisally my PS3 is never moved from the spot. Games started freezing all of a sudden after 20 minutes of play. I've tried opening the console via youtube videos to clean the bluray drive.

Thought I'd sorted it and did pretty well but When I've powered it up after re-assembly, console refuses to suck discs in. Bummer! Try to sort one thing, and up pops another. It seems to think that there's a disc already inside signalled by the blue light initially flickering and then staying on.

I give up! I'm selling this thing as faulty with the power cable. Ideal for those guys who know how to fix these things or for use as spare parts.

First time I'm using HUKD for selling/trading so bear with me and help me out if I'm not doing something right. Willing to consider trading for something similar that works.

Feel free to ask me any questions but try avoiding getting too technical on me. :) Willing to take photos and send/post.
Shipping/Payment:
Cheapest option. Buyer can collect or I can arrange something via Royal Mail. Prefer if buyer pays postage.

Hi guys,

I'll give the pictures a shot tomorrow after I've taken a few pics with my phone.

I have 100% feedback on ebay. Same username "Mobin25".
I have the box for the console. I can probably throw in a controller too.
When I turn on teh console - i get all the usual - home screen - log in - everything as I'd normally get. Just can't put a disc in.

Hope that helps.
#3
Spannerz - Thanks Pal. :)

I'll read up on it.
#4
mobin25 what firmware is the console on ? i am interested in buying this if its on 3.50 or below :)
#5
Do you have any Controllers with the Console & are you willing to post first due to you being new with no feedback.ebay feedback does not count as accounts on ebay get hacked every 2nd day.
#6
Firmware? I've got no idea. However I'm 95% sure my PS3 model is "CECHJ" if that helps. If you need the firmware info, you'll have to tell me what I need to do to get this info.

Ebay feedback is more reliable than that of this site as its more longer established and you know that. You're welcome to pick it up from my house if you live close by? I'm not sure about posting first. Being new on this site also makes me think twice before I post something prior to payment. The unsurety kinda works both ways.

As mentioned before, I'll probably throw in a controller. I have controllers and games but I'd rather get shot of them seperately.

Im only a few miles down the road from you so i can come pick it up. does everything else work on it,like going online?

what games have got with it? you willing to negotiate on the price? with games and without games.

My brothers got a ps3 so I want to pass the games onto him. As for the machine, I only want to use it to go online so the kids can watch iplayer in their room.

Im assuming the ps3 is the fat version?

Images of the PS3 guys:

Mobin25

The PS3 is running on firmware 3.01. FYI, there have been three updates since then:

3.30 in April 2010
3.40 in July 2010 and
3.50 in September 2010

Thanks.

What kind of price were you thinking as a whole package?(games, extra controllers etc)
#11
I'll give you £70 if you throw in the extra pads.

I only want the machine as a glorified internet browser so me kids can watch iplayer etc. These fat versions have a notorious track record of the YLOD and seeing as you've had the machine for 2+ years already, im taking a big punt myself as it could conk out soon after I buy it. and the YLOD will not even allow one to use the machine in anyway making it completely useless.

Ill buy one of the pads off you for £13? then you can sell the ps3 + box and extras off for £57
#13
Listen lads,
Either you want it for £70, or you don't. I don't care what you want to use it for.
This machine does not have, and has never had the YLOD. So you don't need to even go down that route. As most people will tell you, a new machine can't even guarantee you against the YLOD. It's just the crappy way that Sony and their likes make these things these days. Not made to last.

£70, box, leads, 1 pad.

OK,thanks for that info. In that case, i bid you good luck in your sale and I withdraw my offer.

For your info, I mentioned the YLOD issue because these fat versions are very very prone to it. It does not matter if you've never had it before. My mate had a fat ps3 for 4 years and then suddenly it developed the problem. So saying YOUR PS3 has never had YLOD does not mean it will not develop it at all. Its not a case of having the problem within 6 months and if it does not if will never happen. My point was i'll be taking a punt purely because it is the fat version. You're right,YLOD may never happen on your machine, but it may, and that was my point.

anyway, again, good luck with the sale.

Thanks

It's not a bundle. Just the console, 1 pad and leads. Why, what are you after?
#18

I understand that. My point is that all this is based on IFs. Anything could happen to any product. Something may, just like something may not. There isn't a need to go down that route. It's like saying I'm buying this car but just say it breaks down.

I've mentioned clearly, the condition and state of the PS3. I've never had the YLOD. The PS3 is in brilliant condition and net etc works fine. The problem like mentioned is the discs sucking in.

Take care.

I would post but I'm not including postage in the £70 price.

If i bought a new bluray drive (as in the whole grey box), do you think this will be right?

Hi Vorny,

Hope you're well pal. I've kinda decided against getting rid of the PS3 via post.
I've got someone to take it off me locally which will save me some bother.

Thanks for all your interest and hope you have a great new year.

All the best.

Mobin.

Hey chief, I had this problem with my release machine. Let me give you some advice. I would bet my life that you opened up the Blu Ray casing with a disc still inside and the springs reset and still thinks the disc is inside. To make your life 20000% easier you shouldn't open it up unless there is no disc present. Of course, like me you have already done it. Trust me, it took a couple of days playing around and it was all sorted. You have to get that disc back in there in exactly the same position that it was when you opened it.
Saying this though, if you are opening up the machine to just clean the lens, it won't work, the lens needs replacing and to save you the bother of all the disc inside the machine nonsense, get yourself a replacement lens WITH caddy off Ebay for around £29.99 - £35, pull out the old one, put this one in and you're good to go.
Again, trust me this may sound complex but it really isn't and for the sake of a £30 investment you have yourself a good as new PS3 which will contain much higher quality components than the slim ones.
ALSO, if this isn't what you want to do with it you may want to hold onto it anyway because if it is on Firmware 3.50 or less it can be "jailbroken" (after downgrade) so you can use it as a slave machine to play "backed up" PS3 games (without disc so you wouldn't need a Blu Ray drive), SNES, Megadrive, PS 1 and 2 games and MUCH more. This firmware increases their value as well.

Hope this helps

Oh and just to add to my last post, if you do decide to still get rid of it, I will give you the £70 and I'll pay for my own postage (I'll get a courier to collect). I wouldn't mind it as a little project!
