Specs:
Brand atom 230 processor (so you won't have to worry about leaving it on, due to power consumption).
500gb samsung sata hdd
2gb kingston ddr2 ram
16x dvd rewritable
wireless adaptor
Genuine Vista Prem on it.
Also comes with a remote.

I've put Media Browser on it - Organizes all ya stuff how you want, nice coverflow etc for divx. Select a movie and you'll get a breakdown - more background art and can even see actors who play in it.. Then select an actor and it'll show you ever film on ya media centre with that actor etc.. Very clever thing. Will do lots of other stuff.. Organize all ya TV series and music in same way etc. It all runs through Windows Media Centre.

Ignore the blue discoloration at the bottom, waiting for sony to fix my TV :P

Looking to either sell - or trade for nice touch screen mobile or apple stuff. Maybe a Nintendo Wii with loads of stuff also.

Price dropped to £290 inc del

Added 500GB Western Digital Mybook. So price now £280 inc for the lot.

i love that SXRD rear projection tv!! such a quality set....its 55" isnt it?
#3
50" - Yeah i love it aswell.. I've actually got another 50" Samsung upstairs. Prefer the rear projection so much that it sits downstairs.. Just currently trying to get Sony to fix the damn Optical block for free - they accepted liability for the fault in the U.S, not U.K.. Currently letters going between me and Sony customer services HQ - should get it resolved. If it doesn't i'm gonna go on the hunt to buy the 55" version. Because if you calibrate the sony SXRD rear projections TVs right, they're outstanding.

(If ok i'll just consider these replies bumps)

You can pick them up on ebay sometimes. Just a pain to collect unless you've got access to a van or result espace or something. Ah the 40w4500 is a very nice TV :).

Well since you work for Sony, help me to get this Optical block replaced for free. They accepted liability in U.S for the fault and extended the warranties for the TVs to 2010.. But in the U.K they haven't, it's the same fault.. Otherwise it's £600 odd to repair. Small blue discoloration at the bottom is doing my nut in hehe. Tell ya customer services team i bought it from your store or something, and request a free repair.. :(

what numbers have u tried calling to get it repaired? sony are a pain sometimes! did u not get a longer warranty with it? thing is, as sony centres, we are all franchises, so we got about as much authority as the like of John lewis etc....but if u give me the numbers you've tried calling i cxan see if i have any others that might be of any help! cant promise anything but i can hve a look. thats a bit weird having the same problem in US and they extend the warranties and sort them out and not here.

Sent you a PM mate.
#8
spritey whats actually wrong with your sony rear projection tv?

Is there dis-coloration in the top left and right corners? if yes
It's the same thing that happened to mine and engineer told me optical block had gone.

anyways cost to much to fix but when the blub went, and while changing it i got a tin of compressed air
and sprayed the optics. switched on tv dis-coloration was gone seems it was just a certain amount of dust
on the optics :)...

tv i have is the KDFE50A12 and yeah it's a stunning tv with brilliant picture :)
#9
I think it would be useful if you include info regarding,

Model of Graphics Card? Does it has HDMI output?
Onboard Sound card? What output does it have?
#10
On board intel graphics (This is a HTPC - more than enough for divx) Even ran a 720p rip on this without a prob, dont think you'd manage 1080p tho. No HDMI, but most TVs have a PC input now a days.. Sound card is on board, output wise it's normal PC output but i've got a cable which puts it over to phono for any sound systems.
#11
I have a wii which I may consider p/exing - have a look at my thread here: to see what other games / accessories I have and make an offer: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/408735/wii-games-controllers-for-sale
#12
Yeah i'd be interested in that - i'd be looking to exchange the HTPC for ya Wii and all the stuff you've got listed for it.

Lemmie know

Hang on a sec....
#14
Sorry, just a couple of quick things on the HTPC - how does the movie thing work - is it just on DVDs? Is there a way of connecting this to my Sky HD box?

I really want one (don't know why, just think I do) but am trying to work out why I would use it. I currently stream everything from my PC via my PS3 and I have Sky HD.

Can you convince me why I would want one.... :)
#15
I used to stream from my PC to PS3 - but got sick of transcoding everything etc.. Plus i wanted really cool art for my movies / tv series so it was better when viewing.

So what you can do:

1) Rip DVDs to ya PC - Video_TS in a folder and then put that in say ya 'Movies' Folder - the media centre will put it up automatically and assign all the media art to it automatically.
2) Put any divx movies on there you want, same thing into a movies folder.. It'll pick it up automatically and assign all the art and organize it. It'll basically play any file format that ya codecs are compatible with.
3) Stream media over ya network, just assign a movie folder over the network and it'll do the same.. Media art and allow you to stream it from your home PC
4) Will play almost anything as i've put codecs on it.
5) Just turn it on, media centre will start up automatically on boot if you wish.. Just sit back and use ya remote control to play ya stuff which is nice.
6) Can so everything above but with ya music (it'll have album art for that) and TV series.
7) Get a breakdown of all movie details, actors and runtime / year details.. Same with TV Series - will give you a breakdown of each episode just like you would read from a tv guide etc. (if u see pics, one with Tropic Thunder - see what sorta info it gives u there)
8) Also as this is an atom CPU - this is a low power unit. So you aren't gonna have a heavy electricity bill if you leave it on all the time.

You can't hook it upto ya SkyHD nope - don't think any media PC does that.. I think you can buy a cheap TV card and record stuff.. But dunno why you'd wanna do that when you got SkyHD anyway.

All that plus you can use it as a normal PC aswell :).

Example of how my stuff is sorted:

C:\Movies\Transformers.avi
C:\Movies\The Matrix.avi

etc will automatically pick up and download all the album art for those and assign it.

Lemmie know bud :)
#16
Okay the media art - does that download from the internet then? How does it get it - from the name of the show or movie or another way?

How does it connect to the TV ?

How good is it at fast forwarding etc?

I occasionally will download a tv show  - will it get that info as well?

Is Vista an OEM?

Is media browser a downloadable program or is it part of something else?

Ok.. Answers:

Okay the media art - does that download from the internet then? How does it get it - from the name of the show or movie or another way?

I occasionally will download a tv show  - will it get that info as well?

Basically if you say assign folders for the media centre to watch - say you add 'The Matrix .avi' to the folder - it will automatically see that you've added it. Then automatically download all the art for the film to the media centre and assign it to that movie.. If you however named it 'The M4tr1x' it won't - has to be the proper film name.

Same with a TV series. So it'll have to be summit like C:\The Simpsons\Season 1\S01EP02.avi and it'll assign it all automatically. Like just the movies, it'll download all the album art and information automatically.

How does it connect to the TV ?

Just a standard PC monitor connection - all TVs have them now a days. Can throw in a DVI converter if you need that

How good is it at fast forwarding etc?

Fastfowarding is great, do it all from the remote like you would on a DVD player and it's remote. Can fast forward or skip ahead in big chunks if you like

Is Vista an OEM?

Vista Prem - Got the disk and the little sticker for the key all here. Plus all the motherboard and drivers you need. Plus a wireless USB dongle for it.

Is media browser a downloadable program or is it part of something else?

It''s Windows Media Centre with a plugin downloaded called MediaBrowser. You just boot into Media Centre and have an option to launch it. Works all inside windows media centre

Here is a good example of Media Browser setup with Movies and TV: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-pcs/938625-mediabrowser-running-customised-vmc.html

This is what mine looks like. I used that setup to do it. Ignore everything in the post until you hit the 'Media Browser' part of the post.

You can also use an app which is on that thread to download other art for ya movies / tv series and assign it if you want different ones than it automatically assigns. Just an app that scans ya folders u want and then gives you loads of different options for art.

One more question - do you know a good divorce lawyer? :-)

Okay, thanks for all that. Let me have a think on it and will let you know tomorrow if that's okay.

#22
I want this :O looks awesome........not after a satnav are you?
#23
Whats the satnav out of interest - it's possible..

Have to be a pretty expensive satnav though lol.

Got any other stuff?
#24
Hey its a pioneer AVIC S1....Like new....
#25
Just read some reviews - not my kinda thing i'm afraid.. Top end TomTom might have tempted me.

Got anything else? Quite open on trade front.
#26
Hmmm....I guess im out...Btw....Did you build this yourself? Im looking to build one now, play HD content and whatnot....If you did, was it relatively easy?
#27
Na i didn't build it.

You could always buy this off me for £300 inc mate.

Yeah easy as building a normal PC mate.. I'm currently designing my own casing to create my own.
#28
Oooh nice stuff, well not really looking to buy......I like projects and would like something custom....DOes it run HD content smoothly, how loud is it lol?
#29
Runs 720p yeah - you'd need more CPU more if you wanted to run 1080p though.

This one is quiet - i can't hear it basically. If you want to run 1080p though you're gonna have to go up in spec quite a bit, which will require more cooling... Meaning louder. Another thing to realize is this is a Atom HTPC - so also low power consumption.
#30
is there any room insidde it to add a graphice card, also would you be interested for a 1st gen ipod touch 16g and cash
#31
I coulda sworn I saw 55" Sony rear projection tvs in macro a year or two ago cheap..

How much cash are you talking? As i may be interested.
#33
i was thinking around £180 cash, also im in the middle of selling my computer sumwere else so i wont be in a rush to buy this if thats ok.

also the gfx card situation, is it possible for me to add one to it. do you know what model mobo it has as well please
#34
The motherboard is a Foxconn 45CS - It has a PCI slot so yes you can whack a graphics card in.. But with any media centre PC - you couldn't be a monstrous one as it won't fit the case. Since majority of these small form factor media centre PCs are on mini ITX. Majority of GFX cards would fit tho, just not high powered ones with massive heatsinks.

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000404

Details above.

I'm just gonna talk to my wife, see if she wants the iPod Touch. But if she does, is this a firm offer as you're saying you're not in a rush to buy.. As i only wanna agree the trade if it's firm, since i may get other offers.

Also got any pics of the iPod Touch - as the wife would like a look.
#35
£250?
#36
bazzaric
£250?

Thanks for the offer bud but i'm gonna turn it down.

Waiting to see whether tay1982 comes back re his offer of £180 + the iPod Touch as wife wants the iPod.

Will accept £290 inc delivery if anyone is interested.
#37
Damn nice coverflow!
#38
A bit expensive isn't it.

And thats just buying all the components from ebuyer (not always the cheapest)
I say you should be looking for £250/£230 for it

building plus Vista is worth the extra in my opinion. Just can't stretch to the asking price at the moment, although it is reasonable
