I brought this around a month ago, stupidly I didn't check to see if my motherboard had two spare outputs for power to supply this card. So long story short if I want to use my DVD drive then I can't use this card.

So I thought rather than selling it on ebay and then buying another one I would try and trade it on here. So I'm looking for another PCI express card with decent-ish performance. I would prefer passive cooling rather than fans and it has to have just one power supply input (or perferably non if that even exists with these cards).

It comes fully boxed with everything (driver cd, dvi to vga dongles, installation book)

I understand I'll probably be looking at a lower spec card due to not having two power inputs, but tbh that doesn't mater much to me, so long as it's half decent and is one of the budget ranges I'll be happy

Mistake in listing, I mean't to say isn't one of the budget ranges I'll be happy

Hi Mate........can you please add a asking price to the listing as well. Although it's a trade it still needs to be added for comparrison value. Ta. :)

Done, thanks for the advice.

Why not just spend a pound or two on a splitter cable to turn your one power cable into two?
#6
You can also get the PCI-Express adapters with a male and female molex connector making a passthrough.
#7
I have an 1800XT that I could trade. I'm not sure what you mean about your power requirements: it takes one input from the power supply and I think that's it.
#8
I bought one of these a couple of months ago when PC World were clearing them at £49.99.

I returned it pretty quickly when I heard the racket that the fan made.

There is no way of stepping the cooling fan down except by adding an adapter into the power cable from the manufacturers and, if you do that, it steps down the fan to a reasonable noise level but risks overheating the GPU unless your case also has very efficient cooling.

I have a Geforce 7900GT 256mb PCI-E ill be willing to trade, it is very quiet, only takes 1 power supply, i have run Crysis with mid/high settings, Burnout Paradise with everything on full, it doesnt struggle at all with 1080p either for HD stuff. Obviously ill be willing to put some cash towards as well, let me know if interested.

I did think about this, but I figured that the power would be spread across the two devices and probably causing the graphics card not to be cooled properly. So I gave up on that idea as I didn't want to damage the card.

Please tell me if I'm being naive.

How many power connectors do you have and what is plugged into them?

There is a possibility your PSU might not be able to handle it, and thus could worse case scenario blow the PSU and the card? Im no expert, but that would be my understanding...

I have one power cable plug spare, but this is at the end of the wire where I have two dvd drives plugged into the other two power plugs on that cable.

I may be interested, how quiet does it run?

Also interested, as I think it's a similar performing card to the x1800xt. I'll have to go off and do some research, I'll get back to you in a couple of mins

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ati-nvidias-day-mega-launch-mayhem,1227-12.html

theyre similar but in game benchmarks the 7900GT seems to beat the X1800GTO (which i guess is better then then standard X1800).

OP just get a different Molex to PCI-e cable. Should be able to get one on Ebay or the like. It only requires one Molex plug going into 1 female end and has also has a male end coming out for use elsewhere. I have used a cable like this to power a 8800GT and HD4850 with no problems whatsoever.

Runs pretty much silent when not under stress, you could hear the fans if you were playing a game and listening for it, but usually the noise of the game is louder anyway.

I use this for comparisons:

So like me you have 2 feeds from the power supply. I have mine 1st to graphics and hard disk and 2nd graphics, blu-ray drive and DVD-RW. As this never stresses as for games use HD and GPU and films Blu-ray and GPU. But never tested all at full tilt and don't think I will, but yes if I were burning a DVD on the fly while defragging the HD and playing crisis it may have problems.

Thanks for both offers awoodhall2003 - 7900Gt and Jasonwllee - 1800xt

Looking at your sites and others the cards are pretty similar and both beat each other slightly depending on what game your playing, well at least according to the following test...

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_7900_gt_gtx_performance/page17.asp

So overall I don't mind which one I go for.

Checky comment, but is anybody willing to sweaten the deal and add say £20 to the mix, as this card is an upgrade for both of you.
#21
I would be interested if you could send first as otherwise I will not have an output for my monitor!

I would be willing to pay you first of course, £20 is acceptable.

Edit: Also note that in a couple of days I should have some good feedback as I've sold a video game and video ipod over the weekend.

Well like i said im more then happy to add a bit of moolah to it. im more then happy to put £10 towards it, and pay your postage (which should be £3.50ish as that is what the 7800gtx cost to send, and that was with a large zalman cooler on it.
So ill say 7900GT + £13.50 as not exactly flash with cash atm, but if interested we coul arrange some dvds/boxsets/hddvds/pc game to sweeten it or something/instead

Also i would like you to send first, my feedback should more then reassure you.
#23
Sorry for the delay, just sitting here pondering.

Jasonwllee - Only doubt is sending first, both me and you have little of no feedback so I'm not sure I want to send off the card for just £20 and then just hoping.

awoodhall2003 - No doubt with your feedback and happy to send first, but looking on ebay you can pick up your card for around £30 and I reckon I could sell mine for £65 so even taking into account ebay fees I would be better off going down that alley. Let me know if your price is negotiable.

like i said im more then happy to maybe bundle in a couple of things, but as someone else said these were selling for £50 new in PCWorld/Currys so i think 7900GT+£13.50 and ill throw in a copy of Tomb Raider Legends PC (Sealed)

EDIT: could up it to £15 at a push with the game

Well, I can verify my ID through my university email address if you like. It's just that I won't been able to use my computer in the meantime. I have a similar risk in that I could pay £20 and not get a graphics card :-)
#26
matt. You may want to consider just selling the 8800gt if you can get buy without a graphics card and look at the Ati RV740 chip which should be out in a few weeks and should be easier on your PSU but will still give good games performance.

Matt - if you're still worried about my feedback, I could potentially pay £30 first and you pay back £10 once you've received my card. Sound fair?

Edit: also I'm on a certain auction site under jasonwlllee with 100% positive feedback

i have a geforce 9600gt factory overclocked, not far from 8800gt speeds if your interested

if you decide to sell the 8800gt i could offer £50 delivered.

Update....

As posted I went off onto ebay and found the card I was after (at a decent price). So now I a trade wouldn't interest me, however I would be happy to sell for £55 inc p&p.

Not sure if I should make a new thread or amend the "For Trade" in this thread, but if anybody is interested I think £55 is a great price for it.

Keep this thread, as not allowed to re-advertise for 7days otherwise

So goto edit and change the title if you want ;-)

What did you get in the end?

These cards DO NOT need 2 molex inputs.

I've had the 8800GT and the 9600GT and both worked fine with one connector. I wish somebody would listen to me lol.
