Japanese Creative Kokeshi Doll "IZUMI" Chrysanthemum http://members.lycos.co.uk/mrp3sky/hot/1.jpg
Kokeshi Dolls are simple Japanese folk toys that originated from the Tohoku region of Northern Japan. Hand-crafted entirely out of wood, they come with cylindrical body and rounded heads.
In the olden days during winter, the villagers in the Tohoku region would visit the hot springs at least once a year to refresh and relax themselves. What they bring home as souvenirs for their children were these Kokeshi dolls for which the children loved them so much that they would play with them, carry them on their backs and bring them wherever they went.
These were theTraditional Kokeshi which the craftsmen made with one thing in mind and that was to make the children happy.
Today, with ingenious ideas and skills combining both painting or carving, it has cultivated the Kokeshi splendid handiwork known as Creative Kokeshi.http://members.lycos.co.uk/mrp3sky/hot/2.jpghttp://members.lycos.co.uk/mrp3sky/hot/3.jpg
