are these sata or ide? and if they are new and sealed, does that mean they have receipt or be covered by the manufacturer for a period of time?

If you can read the serial numbers through the packaging, there is a warranty check that can be done...

Seagate - http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp

WD - http://websupport.wdc.com/warranty/serialinput.asp?aspsid=222108962&custtype=end&requesttype=warranty&lang=en

thank you very much for that! have just done the check

the seagate is in warrenty until 2012 and the the WD is in warrenty until 2009!

so in reference Bluntslide - all are IDE and in warrenty for a couple of years!
