Wow! what a RARE opportunity. quite literally.
here we have a 'Homer' Dotpal. 12" interactive figure.
what is a 'dotpal' i hear you ask?
basically its a USB device that connects to your computer and interacts when you do stuff on your PC.
EXTREMELY RARE and hard to find. just try googling 'homer dotpal' and searching on eBay and you will see what i mean.

Made by playmates toys USA in 2000 and immediately stopped production, only windows 98 drivers were ever produced. IT WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS XP. but all hail VISTA (the only 1 good thing to come of it) it works on vista using the windows 98 drivers with no problems.

below you can see a short vid of the dotpal in action (taking into account i basically did a few things on the pc to get him to activate. he doesnt constantly interact ;-) )

P+P will be £7.50
open to all offers.............but remember this is an extremely RARE item and wont be going for peanuts (cashews, maybe  )

Cashews? Bless you :)

How do the Windows drivers work?

Do you set-up certain Windows tasks (opening windows, running applications, right-clicking, and so on) to particular (or random) lines that Homer says, or does he interact completely randomly?

Do you have the original box?

And how long is the USB cable from Homer to your PC?

I could see it in the video or your photos?

Thanks for your time replying.

hi there. thanks for your interest.

the USB cable i believe is 1.8m approx (been a while since i wired it up) but i have an extension cable that it is connected to as well as it is arrox 3 metres away from the PC tower. i will supply this with the item if needed.

unfortunately i dont have the original box as i aquired it without a box.

the 'drivers' that i will burn to a CD are a small install. there is a small application that runs in your system tray where you can alter the volume, interactivity level (ie. if he reacts to everything you do that is programmed), spontaneity level (can turn this off if he does you head in :giggle: ).
the program is set with approx 300 homer'isms for various different activities for most of the common programs within windows ie. Word, excel, outlook, internet explorer, photoshop, plus others so when you maximise, minimise, print, save, close, file_open, paste etc he will react. it is great fun.

hope this help. if you need more information please dont hesitate to ask.
regards.

Thanks for your very comprehensive reply.

I am still interested, but put off a little because of the lack of the original box.

Also, I have no reference point to appreciate if your suggested selling price is fair, or not, so I may be offering to buy something that is really worth, say £40, or missing out on a bargain that's worth, say, £200.

I'll try to do some research, although I appreciate you have already mentioned that I'll not find any more for sale, and come back to you.

If somebody else offers to buy before I return, then I'll just have to put that down to over-cautiousness on my part!

Thanks again.

BFN,

OK... What's the very lowest price you'd consider for Homer?

(And a free 'bump')
#11
hi again.
the lowest price i would be prepared to consider would be £50 plus P+P.
thats the minimum that i feel its worth to me. its all a matter of personal value.

OK, thanks for your prompt response.

To me he's not worth that much... but I wish you luck regardless as I'm sure there's a huge fan out there who can give him a good home[r].

PS. Maybe you'll get more interest when "The Simpsons Movie" is released for sale in a few weeks.

hi there ilovepink.

that was me trying to find out other people's opinions of the value. unfortunately there was extremely limited response despite hundreds of views of the topic.

with an item like this it is all a matter of personal value. i have valued it at what i feel is a good valuation based on my experience of it. most collectors had found it became useless once windows XP appeared due to the lack of drivers so became 'ornaments' but as it works absolutely fine on windows vista using the windows 98 drivers then i have based my valuation upon that. needless to say it is a fantasic item that still maked me chuckle now.

Whilst trying to do some research I did find (although I didn't save the link, sorry) somebody who had managed to get Homer working in Windows XP.

If I find the quote again I'll post it here.

i would of been interested if i had the dreaded vista but i stuck with the xp just wanted it as a novelty but if its not gonna work properly i dont really wanna shed out that much cash thanks anyway

why dont you just ebay it im sure your get a lot for it there
#19
or just keep hold of it the rarer it is and all that, someone (probably american) would pay a lot for it
#20
unfortunatley i dont like selling on ebay. too greedy on the fees.
just thought i would try it on here.
if it doesnt go then i shall be holding onto it.
