Thank you. Took me a while when i did it, and it reduced the temperature of the cpu by a quite a bit.

However, by sanding away the nickel layer and leaving the shiny copper layer you get better conductivity. Also, you get the processor surface perfectly flat which isnt the case when you buy a chip. You end up with a cooler chip.

Nice! Is it hard to do? Dont you get the copper surface all scratched when you sand it?

You keep reducing the grit of the sandpaper. Eventually you end up on something like 2500 grit sandpaper which polishes it off to a mirror finish. After that you can buff it up with automotive compound if you really want. But that doesnt really improve conductivity, it just makes it look very shiny. I stopped at 2500 grit.
