Hi all,

I currently have a MGF 1.8VVC Nightfire RED For Sale.
Currently sitting on 52,000 ish miles. FULL SERVICE HISTORY

Requires new head gasket (£700 quote from my local mechanic)
All other car mechanics are 100%.

2 New Brake discs at the start of the year.

Major service 5 years ago included the following:
2x Brake pipe + 2x Unions
New coolant pipes

New Cam Belt

Besides the head gasket going on me a week ago this car has given me no issues what so ever,
Looking at selling as is as appose to repairing hence the low price.

MOT until october 2010
Declared off the road - I was going to tax it but will wait until its sold so the sale will include a full 6 months tax included :)

Looking for £1800 OVNO

Located in Wickford, Essex

UPDATE

the following website have quoted me £400 all in to repair head gasket.
(they replace it with a Honda Gasket instead of an MG one)
MGF engine is a Honda K-series anyway so they have found this to be more reliable.

just so you're aware, its overpriced on a few factors. time of year ie its winter and the fact it needs a HG

I wish you all the best with it though.

The MG has been the fastest car I've owned but the slowest I've ever driven haha! that's honest as well, I love it and am very sad to see it go.

My garage tells me they're prone to go anywhere from around 50,000 into the engines life.
NOTE: I've updated the description above with some more info I've learnt.

Word of advice on this i used to work with these engines,if the head gasket is suspected blown and you can only confirm this once the engine is stripped Rover recommended.

1. Updated head gasket be fitted
2. new water pump
3.new low pressure thermostat
4new timing belt

this is all assuming when it's stripped the head is not cracked or cylinder block needs refaced.

I can highly recommend this bloke http://www.mgroversolutions.com/ he is called Russell and will travel to you to fix the head gasket.

By the way the engine is a Rover engine and not Honda. Any mechanic that tells you different knows nothing!

The car will be a lot easier to sell running than broken. HTH.

Thanks for the recommendation but I really don't want to put myself in a position where I spend out £700 I really don't have to still be stuck with it.

If I have to lower the price to get rid - I will

Give him a ring I bet you could halve the cost of fixing it - It may not even be the head gasket, could be a blown hose or split pipe etc.
