Long story short I bought this ring for my girlfriend in february but unfortunately we have recently split up and I never got the chance to propose. Therefore I have this brand new unworn 18ct White Gold 1/4 Carat Solitaire Ring, Size I purchased from the Norwich Branch of H Samuel on 27/02/10 for £550.00 and obviously i still have the receipt and also purchased the 2 year cover for an additional £40. I appreciate I won't get back what I paid but the bill is coming up for it and need as much as possible so will say £500.00 delivered but willing to listen to offers.

This is the item on the H Samuel Website http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/4984358/18ct+white+gold+1%2f4+carat+solitaire+ring/

Might be also willing to except a cash and psp 3000 as part ex but would prefer the money

I only assess the size of the diamond and design. This type of ring to me does not worth much as it is probably towards the lower grade of diamond in terms of clarity and colour as well as reflective index.
I think ' the christmas kisses collection ' is only marketing ploy.. also H.Samuel tends to sell lower quality items to Ernest Jones. Hence I thought my price is fair..
Obviously, I am not buying it as engagement ring.

Firstly because they sell lower quality items to ernest jones has nothing to do with this ring, how does that justify your price as being fair?
Obviously the Christmas kisses collection is part of a marketing ploy, you'd be an idiot if you thought otherwise! i was just pointing out what collection it came from to make it easier to find / research on the internet.
Going by the fact that the only criteria you are using is size and design (whatever you mean by design, i assume you mean cut?) i can tell you dont know enough to value this ring accurately.
I obviously cannot speak for this ring personally but i can speak for the one on my fiancee's finger! and i had that valued myself!

I did not mean to offend. I am definitely not a diamond expert but I like to buy diamond to my wife every so often. I gain some knowledge when buying the engagment ring. In general, high qualty diamonds has certificate to identify weight, colour, purity, reflective index, larboratory used to cut the diamond, grading of cut Etc.

Common quality diamonds sold by high street chains do not have these certificates.
Therefore I only based my decision on size of diamond and ring design when purchasing from highstreet store. Also, diamond without certificate do not retain it's value well. I am sure everyone by now would know the RRP value on diamond store are grossly inflated. Also, You can definitely negotitiate the price down further in these stores even they are in half price offer ( I have done it in H.samuel and e. Jones). Hope this helps.

I do think £350 is a fair price but it is for OP to decide. Just thought my wife might like a little surpise.

Be very careful, what your talking about is a diamond grading report and not the certificate itself. Of course the report is much more useful when picking out a diamond as it lists exactly what you want to know about the stones. Diamond grading reports could quite easily be written by anybody.

Knowing a little something about diamonds myself your comments about RRP are again simply untrue, i can think of many many instances where i, my father or mother have brought a diamond item and had it valued for far more than its original sale price.
Again, whats to stop you from getting your own report done and getting the stone valued?
If your only going to value a stone purely on its size are you not considering what inclusions it may have? the cut?

I suppose if your tight yes you could get the price down further but why bother? who exactly can you / would you want to tell that you got it cheaper?

If you think £350 is fair then good on ya for sticking to your guns, just my 2 cents. Ignore me if you so wish!

Guys I would suggest that you all read the FS/FT rules.

Half of you are thread spoiling - if you arent interested then dont post, its for the buyer (if any) and seller to decide between themselves what the ring is worth.

Reported to mods as the thread probably needs a clean up.

I appreciate your advice. The reason I don't look at inclusion is because diamonds at these price range will have fair amount of inclusion regardless and cutting of these diamond is therefore less crucial . hence i focus on size and ring design as ultimately, the ring is served as her costume jewellery/ accessories.

I appreciate that you have come across many diamonds being under valued. Therefore you would also have encounter incidence where diamonds are overvalued too. Also, the jewellers shop have their own assessor/valuer, I am therefore surprised that many people are able to buy diamonds (Unless the shop is going under) significantly cheaper than its worth in the High Street Chain. Just be careful, similar to possible fake diamond report, you can get bogus valuer, customers are more likely to pay for the service if they have a tendency to overvalue diamonds to please customers. It is also a complete different ball game when you actually trying to sell.

I knew these information because we have friends in the diamond trade. Hope my advice helps others. Obviously, I am unable to comment on my financial situation in public forum.

I think I will leave it at that and don't want to spoil OP's thread. But certainly, we can start a forum in the 'misc' section if other forumers would like to learn more about buying diamonds. Just ot be clear, I am not here to value OP's Diamond Ring, I am here to offer 350 to take it off his hand..

OP, My offer still stands.
