It all depends if you've been disconnected from the green box. Plug the connection into your tv and do a scan, if the connection is still live you should get the terrestrial channels and a couple of others or black screens which are stored as channels (I used t get sky one and sky news this way), but their no longer availible.
#9
where u based

I'm in London.
#11
what do u mean by scan??? like scan for normal channels without a box?

Yes as if you were using the cable connection as an aerial.

how long you had it, is it got linux and how easy is it to update

1. About a year, had others before that but this one is the best I've had, the only reason for sale is I subscribe to the movies and sports channels so it only gets used every 3 or 4 months for ppv.

2. They all have linux, (but importantly its in debug mode with one of the latest images on it).

3. When I first got it I nearly through it against the wall, lol. But after about an hour of searching on the internet it is very easy. You just need to ftp a new image to the box and go to the update menu.

Yes, if you decide to illegally conenct the box to a cable feed.

Please note it is not illegal to own or sell this equipment, it is illegal however to connect it to a virgin media feed.

You don't need a usb cable, you need a crossover cable. or rj45 if you go through a wireless router.

It may, but to guarantee a signal it is recommende to subsribe to at least one VM service as they could disconnect you at anytime (eg, if your neighbour decides to subcribe they might pull your feed to install theirs).

How much cash ??

I have heard that you can use a splitter to split a broadband cable (if you are subscribed cable broadband) and connect it to the cable connection on the back of one of these and it will work.
Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, sometimes you may need to use a signal booster but the feed is there.

No need for signal booster using a splitter the signal is not affected

For what its worth get a Eurovox Max V 2008- can get them for £100 delivered with splitter pack the lot, its the best on the market by a long way:thumbsup:

Only channels you don't get are sky one (skysports news) cos virgin don't get it lol

All you would need to do is:

1. Plug the box in.
2. Connect a scart and feed.
3. Select your area (if you want to do a fast scan), if you don't know your area you do a full scan takes about 20 minutes.
4. Do a scan.
5. Watch TV.

depending on the splitter most reduce the signal by -3.5db. The reason I say you may need a signal booster is that the signal would have never been checked by the cable engineer that it was strong enough for tv in the first place. Some addresses require a stronger connection in the green box to get all services.

I've had nearly every box, I would only ever recommend a dbox or dreambox because of the lack of support on the closed source eurovox:thumbsup:. But each to their own, btw the ps3 is better than then the 360 in my opinion, lol.
#34
i can remember back in the day when we used to share the extra boxes you could get and split the bill as it worked out you could get it all for £15 a month we had keys to the green boxes and re connected the feed now and again. the signal could be boosted/reduced from teh positioning of the feed in the box. (would mean you need a key though)

lol, I had an old analogue box for 4 years with all channels, until they changed to digital :x

Yes it does, you can also connect a Hard Drive to it and record like a pvr, it will also scan for new channels in the background (so no need for re-scanning).

I only mentioned the PS3 to show what you were saying was subject to opinion, lol.
