how high does this go with stock hsf and stock voltage
for the record i have a 146 that does 2.6ghz at stock and 2.8 with more voltage
#3
I had it on a DFI Expert, with BH-5 then some OCZ-Plat Rev2 (300mhz)

And it did 2.7 on stock voltage with both, but I used an XP-90 HS. with more voltage it hit the 3ghz easily, topped out at 3070 where no extra increase in voltage made a difference.

I ran it @ 275 x 11 with my BH-5 and 300 x 10 with my Plat Rev2

Hope that helps but obviously others my have a different experience with thier equipment, but should be similar.

I can offer £10 (will pickup if that's OK).

But 1st I need to know if it'll work in an Abit AN8 Ultra S939 motherboard & is easy to overclock (never done it before). Also wondering, once overclocked, will it be any good for gaming with a 7900GTX (yours!)? Should be much better than a AMD 64 3000+ right?

lol, tis you again, from far far away!

I couldnt do it for less than £14 m8 but thats still good.

It runs @ 2.2ghz stock, but has the bigger 1MB cache so already performs like one that's @ 2.5

It WILL work on your motherboard, what heatsink are you using? a standard one? do you have appropriate thermal compound? i.e. arctic silver?

It will easily overclock to 2.6 with ease, probably without upping the voltage from what your current one is at.

And yes, it will provide that HUNGRY 7900 with the juice it so dearly needs.

Best to run it @ stock speeds and voltage and keep an eye on the temps first if you are new to overclocking, if it stays below 50(i say 45 but others dont, fact is its rated to run @ 70C all day long with a stock cooler so you have up to that to overclock (60 at most to make sure)

Otherwise just keep it at stock speeds, it will be much better than a 1.8 ghz with 512k cache dude.

unless you have the dual core one?

ADD:

The NF4 ultra you have is ideal, just keep the memory you have running at the speed it is rated for by using a divider and then up the bus speed, your memory should stay at the rated speed therefore not getting you into a mess. There are many guides on overclocking A64 cpu's out there. Dont be affraid to use a divider, more processing power will help the 7900 regardless!

Yep, it's me again!

I offered £10 initially hoping you'd go to £12 - this is what you had it for in your other FS thread. Therefore I can offer £12.

Thanks very much for the informative reply.

I'm using a standard heatsink but could get a better one if required. Yes, I have thermal compound, & it's a single-core CPU.

Is that the divider in the BIOS you refer to?

Thanks again for the helpful post :)

OK, thanks. No problem, I'll collect it tomorrow then. Let me know when is OK for you.

P.S. Anything else for sale?

what u after ?

You wouldn't happen to have a spare non-standard cooler for the Opteron, would you?

Also require some PC2100 RAM to see if I can revive an old motherboard that only uses this spec & PC1600 stuff.

Please let me know when I can come over & collect the CPU - ta. Not in any real hurry - whenever you're ready.

If you make a list of all the bits you have (I don't expect you to!), I'm sure I'll 'need' something from there :p

P.S. Any 775 motherboard, 775 CPU & DDR2 RAM?

Received the CPU on 10/06 with thanks

DudeyGeeza also kindly included some thermal compound which I appreciate :-D. It's always a pleasure dealing with this guy.
