If Phat, u may struggle to sell it atm

Its a phat buddy.

Struggle to sell as the price is too high?

Nope, as of this morning all Phat models appear to have given up the Ghost. None will contect to PSN & if off-line it has trophies it also won't work.

Hopefully it'll be patched via update, but if it is hardware which the internet rumour is, then they will all be doorstops. Please check 'Misc' if u don't believe me, or Twitter for Sony or just Google it.

Until its sorted out I don't think anyone will buy a Phat

I also have a slim (hence the sale) that in recent days has been struggling to get on to PSN, thought it was just me!!

According to all the forums the slim-line are unaffected, so yours will contect OK.

Not sure if it helps but i have re-set it to factory set up. You will need to input language selection and the likes when initially starting it up. There are no trophies on it??

Sure My ps3 cannot be a doorstop if there nothing wrong with it, Sony will have to fix it or replace I believe..

Sonys Playstation Network (PSN) went into meltdown this weekend, logging users out of the service and preventing them from playing online games. That alone would be inconvenient, but users, including our own Brian X Chen, are reporting that previously downloaded games - including Heavy Rain - cannot be played offline, that trophies won in games have disappeared from the console.

Sony is aware of the problem, posting updates on both its PS3 blog and Twitter stream. Oddly, the issue is confined to the original big PS3s: The PS3 Slim remains unaffected by the problem.

Although Sony says it will have a fix by this morning, it has not yet said what went wrong. Anecdotal evidence points to a combination of DRM and firmware issues rather than a network outage. Affected units have their system date set to Dec 31, 1999 (something impossible to do manually, according to PS3 News) or January 1st 2000 and the consoles are only able to play non-protected games.

This, combined with errors like the following:

8001050F - Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to Internet

make us think that a firmware bug screwed up the date and/or connectivity, and the games DRM is thrown into a panic as a result. If this is true, its embarrassing for Sony. The other possibility is that the trophy syncing itself is breaking the games: games try to sync trophy info and refuse to work when they cant. Non trophy-based titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 are unaffected.

Well keep an eye on this, and were sure that Sonys PSN engineers arent getting much sleep tonight. If any readers are experiencing the same issues, let us know in the comments.

The problem is that they are all internally setting date back to 1999, which is before any games came out so its not recognising the game & booting you out, even if playing off-line. If y correct it it automatically resets itself as soon on PSN & boots you off

I assume this should mean people can buy with confidence!!

Two versions of the later PS3 "phat's" are said to be unaffected, too - what model number is it you're selling?

I had no probs with my 60gb on thursday ?

Because it only happened last night/this morning.

Anyway the PS3 will be fine, Sony are not about to write off over half the customers, it would be business suicide, it'll be fixed soon enough.

2 ways to look at it.

1) today could be an excellent day to buy a PS3, since most people are scared to buy 1, you'll get 1 cheaper on places like eBay
2) you buy a console, its a disaster, your screwed. :)

However, no way would Sony say, tough luck and not fix/replace all the affected PS3's on their own dime, because it is not the consumers fault, SONY would lose probably 50-75% of their fan base and not many people would buy from Sony ever again, nevermind fork out another £200 to replace it themselves. So a win-win.

Apologies for thread spoiling. Gd luck with the sale

I will check when I get home, I purchased it Jan last year and only update to slim as although the Phat does Audio HD decoding my Onkyo amp didnt physically show it. With the slim I now have Dolby Master HD emblazoned on the front!! (when available!)

99% sure, from my understanding, that this version of the 'phat' PS3 will be unaffected by the current chip clock cock-up that Sony are apparently trying to fix, as it's got the newer part[s], just like the slims that are also unaffected.

Don't quote me on that, though.

By this time tomorrow though, who knows, it could all of passed and be 'fixed' for all, anyway. Just wanted to see if you need be aware of any potential problem in selling this console, if the problem were to persist, for example. By all accounts, you should be fine with this model.

Likewise, apologies for the thread spoiling. Good luck with the sale
