I have a mint copy of JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion here to sell. I've had it a long time and it's now worth a fair bit.

It's a 1977 published edition, and not one of the rubbish newfangled ones that are out now, it's a real collector's item.

Oh, and it's hard-backed.

This is a book surrounding the Lord of the Rings story, a lot of the sub stories going around in Tolkien's world.

I've had this book valued at £120 but to be honest, something is only as valuable as what is paid for it. I am looking for as close to valuation as possible.

And I'm open to listen to any offers, as dumb as they are. Good place to pick up a piece of history for a bargain here because quite simply, I no longer want it.

Here are some piccies:

If this doesn't go within the week, I'll eBay it.

Let's call this the first bump.
Can I ask who valued it at £120? Is there any damage at all? Did it originally come with a dust jacket or as it is now?
It's as is and it was an antique book store. No damage, is immaculate. The value's because of the age of it and the pages aren't of the same as the new style pages (material wise), it's thicker and slightly yellow, that's what it's supposed to be and was with older books.

Problem with the valuation is that whilst the store keeper valued it at £120, he didn't want to buy it as he didn't want a collector's item and the store sold lower value items. That's why I'm looking to sell it elsewhere.
Fair enough, just wondered if you'd used an appraisal service.

Can I double check that this is the English print run of 77 not the American version? (published by Allen and Unwin).

(your photo shows the 1978 print run of the 77 version? Worth much less than £120! First print run was 200,000 which is fairly substantial, it originally did come with a dust jacket according to publishers, and yours seems to come from the 2nd print run of 175,000?)
Enlightening to see someone who knows their stuff.

It is indeed the English print run of 77, published by George Allen & Unwin.

Upon a check, you're right, it is published in 78 of the 77 version. Good spot.

I'm not entirely sure what the 200,000 and the 175,000 represent though.

Are you interested or just quenching your own thirst for knowledge? Either way is fine!
Let's call this a bump.
