I do not have the original COA/Serial sticker as junked the PC this was on but have written down the key. I cannot validate so cannot guarantee the key will get activated successfully.

Hence low price.

I doubt you're gonna get much for the disk alone.
When you buy XP your technically just buying the license to use it.....
And I don't really know what the mods would say about the license key being on a piece of paper lol.
If you know what i mean

Also is this an OEM or a Retail disk?

the licence key was written by me a few years back and was sellotaped to the cd box where the disk is stored so I'm pretty confident it's the actual key that came with the disk. I think I wrote it down in case I stupidly junked the PC without removing the COA (which is exactly what I did )

Its the full retail version, not OEM.

If he copied the key down right it shouldnt be a problem.
#7
But if MS come knocking I can't see a written down license key holding up in court :p
#8
If it's an authentic retail copy of Windows XP it shouldn't matter, the authentic disk should be proof enough. The COA is more important with OEM editions, as long as the Serial is valid and works, this is a bargain.

source for that rubbish?

A serial key doesnt become illegal if you write it down and lose the sticker! :whistling:

theres nothing wrong with it. as far as im aware the cd wont accept anything but the original sereal key so theres no problem writing it on paper

I'm with csiman on this one... I think its just about the right side of legal - although its probably in breach of the EULA - but who cares about that jazz.

I've got XP licences coming out of my **** to be honest, but this is a good price if I needed one.

just to clear up ...... the disc is worth £0 -£2 as you can download a copy etc ...... the price is actually only worth it for the key..... when you buy a new pc, your not given a cd but given a key sticker ......

if the cd key is infact right and works (which i would expect it would) then this is a good price considering that its still £60+ in shops etc

btw (cant remember exact date, and ms keep putting it back ) but sometime in 2009 they are due to stop providing support to xp (its 9 years old now )

You cannot download a legitimate version. You can torrent a clone but most of these have trojans and viruses on.

and support is until 2014

Microsoft do not provide an ISO of the install disk to the public. It's on MSDN and other groups, as well as torrents, do it is not available officially as a download

microsoft won't provide an iso cos they can tell the less savvy, they needs a new disc & key & hit them hard ......

my point wasn't meant to be about downloading lol my overall point is that the disc isnt worth anything ...... the key is what you will be paying for ........

which is why I have it at a low price as I cannot guarantee the serial. Cant see why i would have written a different key on the CD case that the disk is in. Did it years back so cannot recall.

I agree its a punt so will reduce to £15

Where did you junk the original machine. Am interested but am a bit weary in case someone got the old machine and removed the COA and used it themselves.

I doubt it as it was in a cupboard box in bits and went to the local dump where I watched it get trashed. I did shed a small tear as it was a long time faithful companion :-D
