Upgraded to a new board and Q9450.

why didnt you just over clock the Q6600 to 3.4, or even 3.6, its very easy, as long as you have a good heatsink and fan, im using the artic freezer7, run really well at 3.4, did push to 3.8 but really needs water cooling for that.
also looks like you will have trouble overclocking your Q9450 as its locked to x8 muliply, more info here

Just out of interest what temperatures are you getting on the CPU before and after overclocking.

I have never overclocked mine, don't really need to, but I could give it a go. I have a Zalman CNPS9500A CPU Fan Cooler which I currently have set to the minimum speed through the fan mate. and the Case is Zalman HD160+ Case so I don't think the cooling should be an issue for me.

Currently I am getting around 37 degrees celsius idle and when I am using it it goes up to like late 40s o maybe early 50s. But if I increase the speed of the fan it drops to 40 again under load.

If I overclock what kind of temperature should I be aiming to have?

i have a massive case i cant recall what make it is i bought about 5 years ago when i started gaming, my artic freezer fan is running at full constantly as i just play games and beta test, sitting idle now just this typing overclocked to 3.4gz its at 36c when i play games , for instance GTAIV it will hit max 55c, but it can handle 70c, if you reach about 75c i would back off a bit, i dont think your fan would be man enough for overclocking to 3.4 and keep it stable.

all you need to do is, go into your Bios and change your FSB to 378, leave every else standard, what board are using.
once you change your front side bus go into your temps and see what your temmps are at, let me know ok, if you think you will need more while your pc is off line pm me for my number ok

how much did you pay for your fan, i see they are about £30 if not more, the artic freezer7 is only £18 and more powerful, which is why most people use them.
and if you play games like GTAIV you need as much cpu power you can get, try it overclocked, you will notice a big difference in the game

What would be the lowest you would consider for collection mate?

I also have an E4400 and stock fan for trade if you could make any use of it?

asandino, never change your FSB (or CPU voltage) to a high figure all at once - do it in small increments, while checking the temps all the time.

There are some very good overclocking guides available out there. Results can vary between users, due to the different hardware being used (e.g. some motherboards oc better than others). Also note that overclocking invalidates the warranty.

my motherboard is asus formula maximus II, which is designed for overclockers in mind, the Q6600 will overclock and be stable on air upto 3.6g, but not on his cpu fan, if you use water cooling you can max out at 4.2g
