Have an iPhone 3G 8gb for sale, was used by my daughter

Is in a red body case (black body was replaced about a year ago)

Was working perfectly till a drop cracked the screen, screen was replaced and is in perfect condition. But handset wont turn on now unless it's attached to a sync cable.

Am selling as parts/dead only not as a working handset.

** Edit to drop asking price to £80.00**

Have you tried to replace the battery? You can get new ones with tools etc for next to nothing on ebay.

I'll offer 70, but can't collect.

Cheers

Can you post a pic of it on whilst connected via the sync cable?
#9
Iv got a nokia n81 8gb fully working up for a swap if youd like

Cant say I have thought about the battery to be honest

After the screen was replaced my daughter lost interest in it as it wasnt working, the fixer guy had another go at trying to get it working but never got it working, but he was a mate of a mate as I understand it.

As I say its only being sold as spares or repair so have never bothered to get it looked at properly. Please dont make an offer thinking you are getting a working phone.

Not interested in any other phone thanks guys.

Am going to drop the asking price to £80
When plugged into a sync cable or charging cable the screen displays the following

Just to let mods know there was a dispute with the condition/ posting of the phone and pm'ed Dunkie on Monday with details.

so is this back up for sale? what was the problem?
suspended#18
Phone was sent first class standard and packaged in an envelope only so when it arrived it had 2 large cracks, a number of dents and the volume buttons on the left hand side had fallen off. Contacted seller on Monday as soon as I received the phone and still no response :( Can mods please advise? Cheers!

Dunkie, please get in touch with your buyer. It is your responsibility as the seller to ensure that the items arrive in suitable condition and if these have been damaged in transit you will need to initiate the relevant compensation claim.
Goods remain the responsibility of the seller until the buyer takes possession and affirms they are okay. For this reason be honest in your descriptions and include original photos so the buyer knows what they are getting! Also, use a form of insured and signed for delivery to ensure any shipping/delivery mishaps will be covered.

You should negotiate directly with the buyer to come to a mutually agreeable resolution to this problem as part of the feedback process.

Also MOD PM'd - DO NOT engage in ANY further trading on either FS/T or Fo.lk until this matter has been resolved.

As per my PM to the buyer :

Hi

The handset was packaged in two jiffy bags and as such should have been protected. As to how it has been damaged I have no idea as it was as per the photos.

As I stated it would be sent out next day recorded, which it was there is no compensation route you or I can follow as compensation was not offered, just recorded delivery so we knew you would recieve the item. As you have obviously recieved it then the postage isnt an issue.

The condition of the handset was as the photos when sent out, this handset was sold as parts only and not as a working handset, the cracks on the case can easilly be resolved by replacing the case. The volume buttons may have been lost quite some time ago, on looking at the photos I cannot see them on the handset.

The handset was sold as spares and I made it clear it was not a working handset from the offset, I wont be issuing a refund sorry as the value in the handset is in its spare parts and not as a working handset as I pointed out repeatedly.

Am sorry it appears to have been damaged by RM but these are cosmetic damages as you have stated the handset is working when plugged in, which is more than I had working.

Am sorry you feel that it is not what you were buying but it was sent in good faith and left my hands in the condition as per the photos, it was packaged within 2 jiffy bags and was made clear it was for parts only. You can purchase a new shell case off ebay for £10 or so and if it becomes such an issue I will get you one bought to replace the rear shell casing which you state as being damaged. But I will not pay or arrange for fitting as the handset was sold as spares etc.....

Dunkie, If you got a proof of posting and the phone was packaged correctly you should be able to claim up to £41.

You really should have mentioned that it had buttons missing.

To be honest, I would rather just return the phone and you can then resell it or whatever. I don't mind paying the return postage to avoid any further dispute, but in all I'm not happy with the phone.

The screen and the back seem very loose, I'm not sure if this happened in transit or when you changed the screen, but I have compared it to my dad's phone and it is definitely a lot more flimsy.

Even though the handset was sold as spares/ faulty, I still feel that you should have been honest regarding its true condition, particularly the buttons and the cracks in the back as these are faults which undermine the value of the phone, regardless of selling for spares or not.

I am prepared to post to a mod first before refund if this would suit you better, I will also post photos of the damage to the phone to illustrate the difference in what I expected to be buying if necessary.

There were no cracks on the back of the handset when I sent it, look at the photos.

I stated this was not a working iphone, this was stated more than once, from your suggestions of swapping batteries out etc I think that you know a lot more about iphones that I do and as such am quite suprised that you feel is should be an almost perfect iphone and be able to compare it to your dads. Apparently the volume buttons are stick on silver bits of plastic and were not present in the photos I took to show the handset.

As I have said I will replace the case but I will not accept a return just because you either cannot fix it or have changed your mind. For all I know certain components could have been removed from the handset and used to salvage another handset, you have already mentioned that batteries are replaceable which I didn't know so I feel that I may be up against someone who knows a lot more than they are letting on.

I will replace the case, which was apparently damaged in transit and you did confirm the handset was working when you received it via PM. If a new case is required I am told that as part of a new case you do get replacement stick on volume buttons. That is my final offer.

Actually, I've looked at the iphone and where the cracks are situated and I can see one on the photo now in the top right hand corner, which I previously presumed was just the light. However, it is quite clearly a visible crack, which corresponds with the phone I have received.

Additionally, as the phone was not sent recorded delivery (it was dropped through my postbox without a signature) which I am sure you are aware as you have not provided the tracking number at any stage or proof that I received the phone as it was not sent recorded.

If you check, you will see that I messaged you the evening I received the phone. If you think that I somehow managed to open it, take out the components and still manage to turn it on, then you should be wondering why I'm taking up the issue with you and not selling my skills to Apple!

I am not an unreasonable person, I just expected the phone to be sent properly packaged and recorded and arrive in the condition it was described. I'm fed up with arguing moot points and being accused of removing components etc when it is quite clear that you misrepresented the phone.

Forget about the case. It would cost too much to fit it and I'm fed up with arguing. If nothing else, it will teach me to be more cautious in future of dealing with sellers.

This is the image where the crack is visible in the top right hand corner of the screen (the side which isn't the camera lens)
