it will do eventually, there are ppl currently working on unlocking it at the moment and they are getting there pretty quickly, last i heard they had activated the phone and are releasing the info 2morrow, if the buyer is interested i can wait and unlock the phone before i send it out.

Do you actually have pictures?
#6
i thought the iphones were 1 per customer?
#7
They were 2 per customer.
#8
thought you had to sign up to a contract with AT&T to buy these.....?
#9
It does not take sim cards so its pointless in the UK at the moment
#10
even if you can unlock it you will void the Apple warranty,so if it does go wrong you are left with a expensive paperweight!!!!

Of course it takes SIM Cards! Theres a slot at the top of the phone you unscrew which holds the SIM card in a caddy. See this photo:

copied from the AT&A iphone faq's website

'Were you planning on buying an iPhone, bringing it home and immediately swapping out the SIM card? AT&T says no. Their recently posted iPhone FAQ states that your iPhone must be activated (i.e. through iTunes, with a credit card and a two year calling plan) before the phone can be used. You can't just swap out your current SIM card and start right away. Apple's Q&A adds (rather unhelpfully) that you "should use the SIM card that came preinstalled in the iPhone", giving no hint as to whether a SIM swap is possible.

As I posted yesterday, activating the iPhone restarts the 2-year calling plan clock, regardless of whether you're an existing customer or not.'

I'm not arguing that theres a protection system in place in the iphone to prevent sim cards being swapped. I just read your post as if you were saying that it didnt take SIM cards at all ;)

Although that does happen. China and New Zealand jump to mind. Some phones are locked to one network and don't take SIM cards.

Instructions on how to make this a contract free ipod etc

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/02/tada-the-6th-gen-contract-free-wifi-enabled-ipod/

although personally I think that it would be a rip-off if you couldn't use the phone features on it defies the point of convergence.

well i uploaded pics, had my post removed, not sure why, but if u want them pm me

There was time delay and ur pics have appeared now.. :)
#24
hang on. can this device be used as an ipod/wifi device then? - If I bought one off here or in the USA in an apple store, can I just use it as a standalone wifi device/ipod, and not take out the contract?
#25
yup^^^
#26
oh right.

the apple stores in the USA just sell the unit as a simfree device, which to be used as a phone must be registered with AT+T...

So people can easily buy these from the USA and use them here as ipods and wifi gadgets. Not bad, not bad!

but these do not sync with itunes or have wonderful touch screen technology eh?
#29
Is the touchscreen based on ULED technology?

iPod Video (30GB) - £150.
Decent 3G Smartphone - £200.
Wasting £450 on a 2G phone that doesn't work and an ipod with 8gb - Priceless.
#31
Somebody will want this though. good to show to your mated down the pub, until they start laughing at you for paying £400+ for a phone that doesn't work.
Isn't this due in the UK in November on O2 anyway?
#32
There is an awful lot of thread-spoiling going on here, IMO.

People who are not even remotely interested in buying this are posting up and slagging off this guys item for sale.

I think it's been made pretty clear that the actual phone part of this device will currently not work, but the iPod and Wifi functionality is there.

Perhaps a Mod would like to comment here?

Just shows people are reading the thread and are interested if they comment. I seriously think he will be able to sell them. Can't they go on Ebay or has Ebay blocked iphone sales?
#34
Hi people just an update ive managed to sell the phone for 475, it is a great piece of kit and ppl working on unblocking it are very close (and have released alot of other much more interesting info on the phone)
