there is no such wire frm an 3.5mm jack (audio in) to an ipod connection which allows u to charge the ipod as well as change track so on. Only sound is transmitted through a 3.5mm cable.

Your car stereo must either b ipod compatible which means a wire would usually **** along/built in or u must buy it separately, but it would b brand specific. If u have an audio in socket( same as a headphone socket) then u require the lead suggested by the previous poster.

The Ipod plays the music, the car audio system just amplifies it, via a 3.5mm Auxiliary Lead. Its basicly just headphone jack to headphone jack. Have run my ipod like that for years, and now use my iphone in the same way.
Ace101 and dixin123 are correct. Plus auxilary leads usually only cost a pound, so dont worry about expensive ipod kit.
