Have you tried to hold the power button and the home button together for 5 seconds to see if it helps?
#17
Apple should take it back regardless of 2nd hand or not, worth a trip to the Apple store to see if they can replace or fix it for you.
#18
Ill take at asking plus will pay postage

This might help:

How do I fix my iPod if it will not turn on, turn off, or wake up?

"Your iPod Won't Turn On" from the Apple Support Site provides in-depth instructions for troubleshooting an iPod that won't turn on. Apple recommends that you:

1. Make sure the Hold switch is off

2. Make sure the battery is charged

3. Reset iPod

4. Let iPod's battery drain

5. Update iPod's software

6. Make sure iPod is the only device in your FireWire or USB chain. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard, and your iPod, then see if it will turn on.

7. Make sure you are using the FireWire or USB cable that came with your iPod, and that the cable is in good condition.

8. Try connecting iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works.

"iPod Stops Responding or Won't Wake From Sleep" from the Apple Support Site notes that you need to "charge your iPod, then reset your iPod" if it won't turn off or wake up.

For solutions to other specific problems, please refer to the iPod Troubleshooting & Repair Q&A and try the iPod Help links provided for each iPod model on EveryiPod.com.

If after going through all of the above, the issue appears to be a hardware problem, site sponsor Mission Repair offers free hardware diagnosis and an affordable 24 hour repair service by mail for all iPod models.

How do I fix my iPod if it is "hung" on the Apple logo?

Seems like lots of people on HUKD know how to restore it, and are willing to help (themselves)

Yeah try it, they may even know how to fix it very quickly maybe free or very small charge, while I'm all for a bargain this is robbery at £50, somebody will pick it up and probably fix it inside 10 minutes and it will be worth double, do it yourself and then sell it if need be afterwards but Ipods are normally pretty easy to fix as long as theres not physical damage and just the firmware playing up.

How is £50 robbery when its the price op asked for and countless faulty same spec touch's have sold for less on ebay

Because all this sounds like is a bit of firmware damage with which a bit of know how or getting Apple to look at may be easily fixable.

Would of thought it would be worth near £50 in parts as it's in good condition still, most of the Ebays ones are broke(Physicall damage) in some way this just seems like firmware corruption.

Do yourself a favour and at least take it to an Apple store and see if they can fix it first
#27
It's got to be worth near £50 in spares, screen, the bits and pieces and the memory.

you've said that already, but interesting logic that if something unrepairable is worth under £50 in bits, its worth more than £50 before you take it apart X)

But this looks as though it it isn't unrepairable and only needs a bit of TLC to double its value.
#29
Good lord, if he's happy getting £50 for it who cares!!!?!

I'll go £55!

OP has agreed to sell to me and has sent me a pm with payment. OP can you confirm this here please

No, its looks as if its faulty, to buy something at a premium price because you've guessed its a easy repair is foolhardy at best

How is there any risk in this? If you can't fix it you can sell it for the same amount and if you can fix it then double the value.
