I have used it myself but on Patient UK website

St John's wort is a herbal antidepressant that you can buy from pharmacies without a prescription. However, many doctors do not advise that you take this as it can cause serious side-effects in some people, and should not be used in certain situations

I take these now, and I was worreid after reading that, but all 3 of the GPs at my practice said that Patient UK are a bit scaremongery (if thats a word!) and that they are used by the health service in places like Germany as they have found less side effects or problems with them.

Everything that exists can affect people in different ways, its just when they highlight it that we become wary of it :)

Whilst St Johns Wort can generally be classed as a herbal supplement, after doing some background checks it is often listed for sale with medical guidelines eg
Before taking this product:
Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any prescribed medicines as St John's Wort may affect the way they work

Please seek medical advice if pregnant
Keep out of reach and sight of children
Store in a cool dry place

Because of this we are closing this thread now as the specific product doesn't appear to come under the same group as regular herbal supplements due to its contraindications. Apologies to the OP.
