Where you based mate for pick up? and does it take a sata or ide hard drive? thanks
#5
Bristol.
It takes a SATA disk.

Thanks

Correct me if im wrong but after a little research it seems you have to do a bit of messing about to get a different hard drive from the original to work with it or is it literally a matter of sticking a drive in and it formats itself and off you go? if the first- where I have to do a bit of messing around I would give you £35 delivered of £30 collecting two weeks tomorrow when im passing Bristol :D let me know what you think mate
Thanks

There are some generous (almost 100MB!) "firmware" updates from Buffalo which I think are installed on the disk and not on any flash memory.

Would prefer collection too, but you'd have to meet me halfway ;-) £35

Ok mate I tell you what I will do some more research and have a look into it some more but can you send me some pics of the box close up of the connections etc because I have read that version 1 is alot easier to flash than version 2. If I can come to the conclusion I can sort it without to much hassle £35 sounds decent but where in Bristol are you?? I shall be heading from Wales to Birmingham

It is the one on the left. I think ver 2 are the ones with the "curved" front.
Can meet you around North Bristol so you don't have to drive in the city.

Hi mate thanks again for the quick replies and the info, I have looked into restoring one of these without the original hdd and the version 2 is a bit tricky to be fair and can require soldering in some cases (which I don't really fancy). So to be honest theres a 50/50 chance I would get it working so wouldn't really be prepared to pay more than about £20 for that sort of gamble - thanks again for your help though :D if you don't get any buyers and would drop to that let me know
Regards

This is NOT version 2 so no need for extreme measures (soldering etc).

Included one more option.

With installed 1TB disk £110

Ummm... Well its the lives that require the difficult "reformatting" 1 and 2 it seems - its the older LS1,LS2,HG,HS Nas drives are literally stick a disk in and flash the firmware (because the firmware is located on a chip on the enclosure not the drive itself)
- if there is a way you can image the 1tb drive (obviously if the drive is blank I would think it would compress to only a few gig) then I could image my existing drive with that and that would work - maybe a bit too much work for you but I would pick it up and pay £35 if I could get an image of the disk :D
Thank again

I am sure you can find a good use for a 1TB green disk ;-)

Hehehe would be nice but can't justify it with the fact I have quite a few drives already

Drive swap? Looking for a smaller SATA for a new build, so probably you can get the NAS ready and I won't have to think of ways to extract the image from the drive.

hmm thats an interesting one mate - Im pretty sure the biggest sata I have is 300gb but I also have a 250gb sata so I could trade you both of them plus some cash for it or I have a 500gb IDE drive I could include in the deal and thats presently in an external usb caddy so that can be included if you like. Let me know if any of that takes your fancy.
I will also have a look as I might have a bigger sata somewhere ;-p

As it is going to be used mainly for OS and a few games it does not need to be big. Just let me know what you've got (models) and warranty and I am sure we can sort something out.

Right I have taken the drives out of my pc and had a look for you
1 XSata Samsung SP2504C (250GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE)
1 X Sata Western Digital WD2500 (250 GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE)
1 X Sata Seagate ST3300831AS (300GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE)

1 X 500GB Maxtor 3200 Personal storage (external hdd but can easily take the hdd out for you - the drive is ide)

I don't believe there is any warranty left on any of these hard drives unfortunetly but if you are prepared to wait I also have another Sata Western Digital WD2500 (250 GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE) being replaced under warranty by Western Digital at the moment but it can take upto 30 days

Let me know what you think

The WD should be fine (I could knock out £10-20 depending on which one - old or replacement). How does that sound?
