Have a USB caddy that will accept IDE drives that isn't being used - so if anyone has any cheap IDE drives please let know as I'd like to use them as backup storage.

It's a desktop HDD that I'm after.
- Liddle ol' me

Adding SATA HDD drives now also as I've purchased a 3.25" caddy that can handle both.
- Liddle ol' me

That should say 3.5" caddy of course!

Thanks - will keep both in mind but wait to see if there is anything cheaper. These are going to be used once for backups and then stuck in the cupboard, hopefully never to be used again :)

Larger one. The caddy I have is actually a 5:25" for a DVD drive, but it will still work with these drives of course. It just won't protect it - which isn't important as I only want to connect it to copy the files and then disconnect again.

Ok I have a 80GB drive but I think if faevilangel does it £9 delivered then that is a very good deal!

I have a brand new drive but will want £10 for the drive + £2.50 for P&P.

Zish

Do you have more than one to make it worth my while? Ideally I'd like more storage space than that.

I can only sell you 2 on here.

Ok, will you test the smaller one too? even if I don't take it, someone else might. And what's your best price for both delivered? Tbh, the 2nd one is too small to be very useful but I might just use it a backup of backups if both are cheap enough :p

okay i tested the 80GB and i found it has data on it, it has a bodged version of ubuntu linux, the disc will need a wipe, the pc recognises the drive but won't boot from it,

it just needs to be used with a disc wiper, the 32GB drive was bought from darryljones on here but never used, its a 40GB drive but i was told it only shows as 32GB ...... no idea why....

the drive is a maxtor one, due to weight i can't lower the prices on either, so would be £15 for both 80GB is £10 (with postage) and the 32GB is £5 with post

Actually, I think I'll give them a miss then. Hopefully you have a buyer in the thread who asked for it if I wasn't interested. Hope so and thanks for checking

Can get a BN 320GB SATA HDD from Scan for £31.95

http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=529060&Product=320+GB+Samsung+HD321KJ+Spinpoint+T166,+SATA+300,+7200+rpm,+16MB+Cache,+9+ms,+NCQ

so perhaps you'll adjust your prices to get rid of your old IDE junk?? :p:)
#22
Not really a like for like as that is SATA -
Think the price is fair as an 80gb IDE is £29 on it's own http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=491999&Product=80+Gb+Maxtor+STM380215A+DiamondMax+20%2c+IDE+(PATA)%2c+7200+rpm%2c+2MB+Cache%2c+11+ms

No worries if they are not for you. Thanks anyway.

Yes, true they are not like for like but my caddy can handle both so the SATA is better value for money. But I won't say no to your offer just yet. Let me look around and get back to you

They are both the faster 7200 ATAPI 133 type, Both are Maxtors. 120 is a dimondmax plus 9 the 300 is a plus 10 i think. Both fully working of course.

Yeah, the free delivery deal with scan is great - I make use of it a lot. You've just got to make a purchase of £20 before VAT. 20 bumps won't work though

Ok, I'll pass on those drives for now then as it wouldn't make sense for me to pay more for less.

I'll make a decision by tomorrow night whether to make an offer on something on here or go back to my friends at scan :)

Apart from the free delivery, I also find the deals on their Today/only page especially good & usually only buy from there (if ever). Generally weekends have the 'best' list displayed, starting around mid-day on Fridays.

Yeah, in fact I'm prob going to go that route again as people are expecting too much for their old drives on here. The 80GB offers aren't bad, but they are probably too small for my purpose. I need at least 200GB in total so a bit of a pain to swap smaller drives ...

Keeping open for today and making decision by the end of.
#39
No longer needed. Gone for this external drive instead. New £250GB 2.5" drive for £36 delivered - not bad at all :)http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/280523/250gb-maxtor-basics-external-hard-d/
