Cannot get Vista to recognise my LG GDR-8161B DVD ROM drive (which I need to back up Wii games) and I cannot find a driver online that will help. Apparently XP presents no such problems so I'm thinking of rolling back one of my desktops for this purpose. Does anyone have a reinstallation copy of XP for Dell? If necessary I can send you the same for Vista Premium. Thanks.

If you phone dell and complain, 'problems with your software not compatable, ws told by dell it was. they send you out one. I did it worked fine, have to talk to ones in india then ask for superviser

Now I have xp and vista cdrom that i can install

also if buying one, best to get one for that system type as some look at BIOS info if for that model

and thanks for that too - strike, I've also just remembered seeing your name that the mcAfee disc I promised you is still in the drawer! I'll got it sent Monday latest - far too lazy about this just because I was giving it away. Don't worry I still have your address - it's actually in the envelope and ready to go!

you won't need a number for XP you're allowed by microsoft to downgrade to xp pro. dell will send you the prod disk out (or you can obtain one by other means) and you should already have a driver disk which is multi-os.

Thanks for that too. Ok, so looks like I should just contact Dell - just phone the customer care number I presume?

Rep being added for you guys now btw

If you get a dell OEM disc, I don't believe there is a need for any serial numbers/downgrade activation malarky (as it is pre activated when it sees a Dell Bios). As mentioned try Dell, or get someone to lend you a disc from here and make a simply copy of it and send it back to the member.
(Of course there is no risk to the other member as they keep their COA number, etc)

Thanks again Bazz - btw, your pm box is full so a witty message I composed in reply to your last has been lost forever. Something about Traders Anonymous... but have forgotten now. Inspiration strikes only occasionally and is soon forgotten if not captured in print...
