To get them in Japan you had to enter a lottery in each store that was allowed a small allocation - they are like hens teeth even over there.

Well it isn't a PAL system, so you will not be covered by warrenty.

Also they will not play PAL versions of PlayStation and PlayStation2 games.

Also will not play Region2 Blueray Movies.

I am guessing it will not play Region2 DVDs either but havnt seen that one confirmed.

If play-asia or Lik-Sang were still allowed to sell PS3's then i would have said "*******!"

MOD EDIT - even though you used an asterisk, it still wasn't very nice, so I removed it.

The ps3 is region free and japan uses dvd region 2 so it will play european dvd video. Blu-ray I'm not too sure about though and you're right about the warrantee.

I've been offered one for £750 including delivery (60gb model). It's just a shame I'm not in asia anymore, I could have made a killing on these things. :)

from what i know
if you bring in gift and things for personal use or claim it is a used item\
there is not VAT!!!! or and CUSTOMS!!!!
can anyone confirm that i m right
#20
yeah i think you need to sign some sort of declaration, but these boxes are so big and heavy you'll probably exceed baggage allowance
#21
Well unfortunately we lost out big time Blu-Ray region code wise. America, Japan and East Asia all get one code. Guess who we are lumped with in our European coding! Bloody Africa :) Nothing wrong with Africa as a country but it means we've lost out big time on the most important media output sources - Grr!

someone i know is selling them off at £650 and has games coming aswell

Yet just another reason why blu-ray is ****.

That's just sony trying their best to stop europeans, and in particular britons, from purchasing asian and american titles for lower prices and before the euro release dates.

I think I hate that company more with every day, it will lose to hd dvd anyway.

And Africa is a continent, not a country by the way. ;)

The PS3 is region free as far as PS3 games are concerned. You're right about region 2 DVDs though, i wasn't sure what Japan had.

I think regions for Blueray have changed completely so no idea what the status is on that, but I read you can't play a UK Blueray disc on a Jap PS3
#25
It's human nature to be greedy... But £900? Actually it's not the seller, it's the buyer. eBayers got too much money to waste :P

Remember guys... PS3 aint even a week old yet - expect bugs and other mishaps. And since it's a Jap you'll prob. not have any warranty unless it is honoured worldwide.

Its been a long day

I suppose yu heard about the compay that sold PSP to Uk people before its release in the UK, Sony took them to court, won in every country they sold to, quite recently, the company has gone down!!!! Beware

apparently Sony have released the "we have major issues with the PS3 playing PS2 games" and then added there is nothing they can do, heard it on the news this week

Ebay UK have now said no to listing PS3 consoles and games until the European release. It seems it has so far applied to ones listed in the UK but will probably move to the Singapore and Hong Kong listings - I can feel the strong hand of Sony. This will mean they are harder to get hold of. I am not a gamer but I do know that the earlier versions of the PSP are highly sought after for the lower number firmware - would this apply to the earlier versions of the consoles? (have I just displayed unutterable ignorance?!)
#29
You see, only a company as pointlessly idiotic as Sony would make a console region free and then prohibit any sale of hardware or software across continents.

Total anal *******s, I wish they'd just give up.
