The REL Q100E is an active subwoofer. This means that the box not
only contains a large cone, but also the amplification required
to driver the cone. In this case its 100w RMS.
The subwoofer can be used for Home Cinema and for music, and makes
a tremendous difference to both.
The Q100E has won numerous awards and currently retails for £499.
It has a claimed performance of 20Hz to 200Hz, which is very respectable
for a subwoofer of this price. Its also manufactured in Britain (Wales
to be precise).
Both high-level (speaker level) and low-level (phono) methods are
supported. The high level connection is made via a Neutrik Speakon
connector (supplied). This connects to the L & R speaker outputs
of your amplifier and taps the signal, without drawing any power.
The low level connection is made via the 5m phono connector (supplied)
and the sub-out of LFE output of your amplifier (if it has one of
Both connections methods are supported simultaneously if desired.
No remote control for this, just a few knobs on the back :-
1) SLAM/DEPTH - Slam sucks, leave at depth always.
2) Low Level filter - Sets upper frequency limit (20Hz to 200Hz)
3) High Level filter - as above but for high level connection.
4) Volume - Loudness control.
I found the wiring no problem at all. The positioning was very problematic
- the wife would only let me sit if behing the couch. However, this doesn't
appear to effect the performance, although higher pitches of bass can readily
be traced to that locale rather than the front soundstage.
As for setting the crossovers for both High & Low level inputs - nightmare!!
I find that I keep changing it for different types of material, i.e. TV,
music, VCR, DVD. I've had it for 6 months and I've still not found an
when i got it, it hummed so i bought the parts from rel and had it sent to them for repair, when i got it back it still hummed so it went back to them, this went on for a while, when finnally rel put a brand new amp in and sub speaker, BUT when i got it back the lorry driver thought it would be good to drop it on a corner which has caused some cosmetic damge, rel tried to put it right but were unable to, there is some scratches on the unit but not to bad as rel resprayed the unit, other then the scratches the unit is perfect, any questions please ask, collection only as it is very heavy, just taken pic's only to find a hole in the speaker, not impressed, set it up and it still works fine no problems, i had the doors and windows vibrating so much, lol
reduced to £80 due to damge to speaker
