NOTE: I also have a PACE standard sky digibox - again as new. Looking for £35.

Will this work with any Sky card?
#3
Yes as far as i know it will work with any Sky viewing card.

It will work as a free to view box - but you will need to get in touch with sky to upgrade your sub. In my case they refused to do this without charging for multi-room, already have HD and a sky + sub and was looking for a further sky + card for an extra + box (currently only works on free to view channels). Was not prepared to pay any extra so they would not upgrade the card.

Does it still record the freeview channels to the harddrive, or is it just like a freeview box now?

The sky + one has the facility to record to the 80gb hard drive so it should act as both a freeview box and be able to record i would think.

If you can test this out and confirm, i would put in a posion to put an offer in!

They won't record without a Sky subscription. We had Sky with a Sky+ box and when we cancelled our subscription we kept the box but couldn't watch anything that we had recorded on it. It still worked as a freeview box, sort of - we could use the TV guide and set reminders, but not record anything, and for some reason some channels that should be on freeview were missing - I remember for sure that we could no longer watch Dave, which is freeview.

I do have one question though - if you have a Sky subscription with a regular Sky box can you just swap that for a Sky+ box, swap the viewing card over and have all the recording features? Or do you have to notify Sky that you've got a Sky+ box for them to activate it, and does that cost anything? For some reason I thought having Sky+ cost a little extra each month, but the website says it's free with a Sky subscription.

I believe it is now free, but to be able to record one channel and watch a different one, you will need to run an extra cable from the LNB on your dish, to the back of your box!

Have this situation myself - a HD box & a sky+ box each with subs, together with a further sky+ box and a free to view sky card - have been in touch and they will not upgrade this free to view card to sky+, unless I pay for a further multiroom sub. If anybody manages to get this, at no charge, I would be grateful for the heads up.
