Selling my trusty higher-spec Vostro 1500. Have ordered 2 x new XPS M1330 as we will be travelling a lot and need smaller, lighter laptops. The full specs are below but there is also a list of extras included for a serious buyer (don't worry mods, nothing that requires original disc or licence - case, headphones, soft-padding sleeve, USB light, USB mouse + more). This has got Next Business Day warranty until September 2011, so it is fully covered until then. As an example of what this service provides, I had an issue with my HDD in January and an engineer arrived the following day and replaced it after saving all the data. He also reinstalled Vista for me. The laptop is in as new condition, no scratches or dents - it has been stored carefully when not in use in a high quality padded carry case.

* Note this has the faster HDD (7200 RPM) than the regular option for this model *

CORE 2 DUO T7300 2.00GHZ, 800, 4M
15.4 WXGA TRUE LIFE
BLACK COVER CAMERA 2MP (built-in webcam and mic)
3GB RAM 667 MHZ DUAL-CHANNEL DDR2 SDRAM (1 x 1GB + 1 x 2GB)
HARD DRIVE 160GB SERIAL ATA (7200RPM)
FIXED INTERNAL 8X DVD+/-RW DRIVE
90W AC ADAPTER - 2 WIRE
PRIMARY 9-CELL 85WHR LI-ION BATTERY
256 MB NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600M GT
UK MODEM CABLE AND ADAPTER INTERNAL V.92
INTEL PRO WIRELESS 3945 802.11A/B/G MIN
VISTA HOME PREMIUM
4 YEAR HARDWARE SUPPORT - NEXT BUSINESS
Shipping/Payment:
I paid over £800 new in September (the 4-year warranty was an important optional extra for me) and have also upgraded the 2 GB RAM to 3GB RAM. I will accept an offer of £599 delivered for this, otherwise it will go on eBay at a higher price. I have the original Dell resource CDs, Reinstallation discs, box and packaging etc. It will be delivered by Special Delivery for full insurance.

NOW REDUCED TO £525!

I mistakenly added reference to included MS Office 2007 without original disc. A mod hightlighted this and explained this breaks the rules and removed the listing. I may look at upgrading some of the specs and relist it again later (without MS Office of course). But yes, I have 2 Vostro 1500's - this one and another than literally is brand new. It has a much lower spec though and has only 1 year NBD warranty. We have 2 new M1330's on the way - looking forward to having smaller laptops now that we know we will be travelling 3-4 months of the year! :)

Hi there - sorry, phone call took me away for a while. I forgot we are nearly neighbours! You've dropped things off with me twice if I remember? I'd be happy to do a deal with you on this one if you are interested, but I'd like to leave the lower spec one out for now - talking on the phone with my father has convinced me we should leave a laptop in the house in Marrakech and it might as well be the cheapest one we already have. Let me know if you want to come round and look at this one - I'm at home most days this week. Cheers

EDIT: off for dinner - back soon.

Consider this a bump -- I will go as low as £525 on this plus delivery at cost, if payment by cheque or BT. This is a really good machine, you won't be disappointed if you need a really solid fast performer for the house. Vision is first class for DVDs etc and the 256MB video card makes it a great gaming laptop too. My only reason for selling it is the weight issue. I needed something lighter and samller for travelling, hence the new purchase. Remember this is fully insured next day business international for the next 3.5 years!

are you in a hurry to sell?

I would offer £500 at the end of march

Not particularly in a hurry. But one member - who shall remain nameless - offered to buy my PS2 slim with screen in January in the same way. I waited until the end of the month and then he asked for more time and couldn't even give me a future date. I turned down other offers in the meantime and then didn't get the sale at all. In the meantime, tesco released the PS2 slim for £49.99 and spoiled my chance of getting my price!!

So, on past experience, I am willing to hold and reserve for you, but I would require a 10% deposit. My other conditions are that payment would have to be by cheque or BT (PayPal is fine of course, but you would have to pay the fees). And I would spilt the difference with you on price and accept £510 + delivery (Special Delivery would cost £20 with £1000 compensation). There are cheaper options such as DHL 24Hour courier at £6.99 but it wouldn't have the full insurance; however, the laptop is in it's original box with protective casing).

Let me know what you think.

Looks like I scared you off with the deposit idea .... oh well :p

Why, thank you, kind Sir. Didn't seem to work though!
#11
Is this still available? If so how much was the deposit?
#12
Details are on post # 8 -- 10% seems fair.
#13
Im very tempted but i only have £380 at the moment, any chance i could claw you down to £450 (not inc delivery) and i could pay full via bank transfer in the next couple of weeks? Obviously i would send you a deposit.
#14
Sorry, too low. I was already regretting the going down as low as I did. Sometimes I get too impatient for my own good. I will hang tight on my price and advertise it elsewhere later if needed. I'm somewhat in two minds. a) I want to get back some of the cash I splashed (credit cards) on the new Dells, and b) I don't want to lose money by selling it to savvy buyers here when I'm sure I can get a better price on ebay...
#15
£485 inc delivery?

My absolute rock-bottom price is £505 + deliv but in that case I will take out the 2GB RAM stick and replace it with a 1GB, making the total 2GB instead of 3GB. The 2GB is plenty, but I want to run 3GB on my new system as I do video editing while multi-tasking as it's memory intensive. Otherwise wouldn't need more than 2GB.

haven't heard back from you - are you still in on this? I could lower the deposit if necessary...

EDIT: and p.s. the soft padding sleeve is out of this now - just realised I will need it now that I'm giving away the full lattop bag/briefcase (pictures can follow of all equipment). I'm off to watch newsnight now - back later.

I think i'll have to leave it then as i can get a new vostro 1500 for £600 which has some higher/lower specs than this 1, it comes with a year warranty but it would mean i can buy when i needed it.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I will probably put this on ebay then, unless geoneo is still interested. Cheers.

I've listed the other one now, as this isn't getting my asking price. It's here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/153153/fs-dell-vostro-1500-319-delivery/

I'll leave this one for a few more days and then ebay it.
#23
This one IS still for sale! :)
#24
After sourcing one of the M1530's, it seems I still have this one for sale!

Anyone interested at £500 delivered? Still a very good price for this spec, esp. with full next day warranty to Sept 2011.

p.s. this is the same system as the april fool joke earlier, although I won't be accepting offers at that price!
#25
Would offer £475 delivered - but would want the full 3GB ram.

Do you live in the NW? Collection possible?

Live in North Wales - so depends where in NW you are. Obviously I would incur costs so offer would be lower if I had to collect.

Ok, that's out then - I'm in Lancaster. It would need to be special delivery then. Let me think about your offer. Best done in the bath - it's running now!

EDIT: Just looked back at that offer. £475 delivered is tight. Could we meet in the middle? and I'm including the BN Belkin case and the 3GB RAM.

Ok, refreshed and clean again. I will accept your offer provisionally, just give it until this evening to see if none of the others who were interested originally are prepared to offer a little more - or we could close now at £485? or £480 but I keep the case? I can send it Special Delivery with insurance up to £1000 and pack in the original box, etc. Can mark the vlue at £800 so that even in the unlikely case that Royal Mail lost it you would be compensated for complications, etc. Let me know what you think.

Prepared to pay £475 by BT for the full package ie laptop and case. But have been stung on here before so I would need your full details first (as per forum rules). Let me know what you want me to do next.

Ok, I'll accept that tomorrow morning if nobody beats it in the meantime. No other interest so far, so I reckon you are probably safe. As for my details, of course I'll give them all to you. Even if I didn't, there are a large number of members who know my personal details on here anyway, so it wouldn't be too difficult to find them out!

Sorry to hear you've been 'stung' on here before - curious to know how. Aside from the odd person calling me names occasionally - and I probably deserve it most of the time! - my experience has been 100% positive. In fact, the FS forum has some very decent characters floating around. The dodgy ones are usually pretty easy to spot (and I'm not one of them!). :)

Edit: And sparkygeezer, you are one of them (not the dodgy kind, the decent kind! lol)- DHL finally delivered today! it only took them, what, six weeks?! You have the patience of a...hmm...what's the secular equivalent of a saint..?

Once very early on in my membership by 'beerman1' (who had over 1000 posts and was by all accounts well thought of) - I did not get all his details and lost over £80. The second was more recent I bought an LCD TV from 'detroitcity1976' which was fine, I was very pleased with the deal so I then bought another for my mother, this second set never appeared an seller disappeared with £180 of mine. So much more careful now.

Oh right, that sounds pretty bad, esp. the second one. Now that guy really does deserve to have names thrown at him, and perhaps other things too. I know there are a lot of online scammers around and I've fallen for one myself - a couple of years back with an amazon seller. It's awful, right? Not just the money, but you feel a fool for being naive in the first place. Ah well, their loss usually in the long-run. Somebody eventually catches up with them and we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves. Better being a fool occasionally than a scammer, eh?

Just found these threads. Now I have a fuller understanding. The second (TVs) is particularly interesting.

Sell a few items to get confidence up then list a load of cheap items and then disappear.

Yes, that second thread appears really obvious doesn't it? Very easy to be persuaded that someone is genuine if they have sold something to you before. I suppose that's why they call it a confidence trick.

Ok, that seems to wrap it up unless you have changed your mind. I will pm you with my full details now.

As mentioned earlier, I won't be able to send this until Saturday, so you could either BT today (after checking my details) and it should hit my account Friday if you are non-Barclays, or pay cash over the counter on Friday.
